If you made $18 from a $65 sale you did something wrong.
Don't blame ebay.

eBay is not Reverb. I don't see any sold items on this account, but I agree, if you sold a $65 item and netted $18, you messed up somewhere, like possibly free shipping on a heavy item, or high advertising rates (though that would be really high). eBay takes about 13% in most categories from the full amount (item price, shipping, and taxes), though if it was a music instrument I think many of those have different fee brackets (but none particularly high, some quite low in fact). I bring that up only because you mention Reverb, which is a music instrument selling site, but if that's not what you meant you can ignore that part.

1 - The item actually sold for $55.16 because you accepted an offer.
2 - You offered "free shipping"
3 - eBay fees would have been about $8.50
4 - How much did you pay for a shipping label? With Canada Post on strike you probably bought a UPS or FedEx label which could run from expensive to VERY expensive depending on the destination.
Bottom line is that eBay took about $8.50 in fees and you spent about $47 Dollars on a) a price discount, b) shipping.
Please tell me that you did not think offering "free shipping" meant that you could actually ship your item for free.

eBay tells you what the fees are for selling here, and you can control how much you charge the buyer for shipping.
If you only netted $18 from a transaction, it is because you chose to list and sell it in a manner that only netted you $18.
