I'm done, again.

I cancelled my account in about 2012 after 12 years and 100% feedback on 1000 transactions. In that one, a buyer asked for a refund claiming I sent an empty box. My PO reciept showed in weighed 7 lbs and the buyer SIGNED for the box. Ebay refunded him and I was out $125.

I sold a few items last week on wife's account to raise some Xmas $. Sold a $2000 diamond necklace.

Buyer asked for refund after having (and wearing it) for a week.  She claimed necklace had several bad solder repairs and it didn't lie right on her neck. I asked for pics of the damage or repairs. She provided no pics.  Ebay finds in her favor.

Called Ebay. They said she "had a valid reason for returning it".  What was the reason? She said it was damaged. I said it wasn't AND I SENT PICS OF THE PIECE to Ebay to prove it was clean. Ebay said it could have been pics of a different necklace.  Thay said she wasn't obligated to send any pics to prove anything.

Has Ebay really gone this far to drive away buyers? And to take $260 in fees out of their pockets to do so? This place is a sewer.

There is really no way to prove anything with photographs.  In the 2012 case, I hope you reported the buyer to the USPS Postal Inspectors for potential mail fraud.  While it probably wouldn't have gotten you your $125 back, it may have put the buyer on their radar.

Where were your photos showing the BACK of this tennis necklace, showing how perfect that side was too?  That would have prevented a buyer from claiming there were previous badly repaired/soldered places on it.

Yes, I can understand how this type of necklace might not have lain flat on a wearer, as some of those seem to sort of *roll* or tilt instead of lay flat.

And the fact that there were no photos showing the back of the necklace in perfect condition means that the buyer's claim that it didn't lay flat, correctly on her neck and throat, might have been caused by....  poor solder work and repair that altered the necklace in a way that caused it to hang/lay poorly.

Anyway, sorry your transaction didn't stick.  These days, buyers shopping online absolutely expect to be able to make returns of merchandise, just as they do in *real* brick and mortar stores, so sellers who are resisting that desire, usually only create even more problems in that transaction.

Ebay isn't for everyone, that's for certain.  Millions and millions of members, and certainly many who sell very, very successfully here, making their living at it, and having a good time.  But some sellers can't make it work for them, for whatever reason, so always sad to hear when they've run into a problem.  Not all sales stick, and you can no longer FORCE a buyer to knuckle under and just keep what they bought here.  Those days are past and now they expect eBay to work like most all the other retail sales sites online do.  Returns accepted.  And pretty much for any reason, including I don't want it anymore.

If all it took for a seller to win a case was to have a picture of a valuable item, sellers would be posting pictures of Louis Vuitton bags and shipping plastic grocery bags.
