So, I had an item listed. I received two bids. Auction showed two bids, and the amount was $25. Now I just checked, and I have no bids on that item. And I don’t have a message or anything from anyone saying it was retracted.
Am I losing my mind?

As long as there are at least 12 hours remaining, a bidder can retract.

You can see the retractions if you go to the listing and click on the link that says [0 bids]. Scroll down to the bottom of the bid history.
As noted in the other post, bidders can retract their bids as long as the auction has more than 12 hours left. During the final 12 hours, a bid can only be retracted within one hour after it is placed. A bid retraction is annoying, but a reluctant auction winner is worse.

EBay encourages newbies to use the Auction format, since that is eBay's "brand".
But actually over 85% of transactions on eBay are Fixed Price.
Mostly because buyers don't want to wait a week to find out they lost to a last second sniper.
You can see buyer retractions on their feedback page, if you really care.
If you use Fixed Price the buyer can pay immediately.
If you use FP/Immediate Payment Required, the listing stays live until someone actually pays.
More important, are you signed up for Managed Payments?
EBay no longer uses Paypal to process seller payments.
Unless you can provide your SSN, and your checking account in a bank in your nation, eBay cannot transfer the money you have earned to you.

Click on the bid number (currently showing zero) to bring up the Bid History page for that item, scroll to the bottom, and you should find the two bid retractions listed there, along with the reason(s) for retraction.
In the long run, it's probably best to have them retract their bids now as opposed to buying and returning later. No other bidders will see those retractions unless they view the Bid History page, which they would be unlikely to do if no bids are currently showing.
You can also add the bid retractors to your Blocked Buyer Page if desired.

It's not eBay's "brand" at least it hasn't been for more than a decade and very little if any of their marketing is related to the Auction Format. I'm not sure where you get the idea that eBay "encourages" the Auction format. I've looked at the Help Pages designed for new sellers, there is nothing there other than telling new sellers to chose between the Auction or Fixed Price format.
Relative to the Fixed Price format eBay's cost of servicing Auctions (customer support, refunds, returns, scams etc.) are no doubt much higher.
