I just recieved a box with a few rocks wrapped in bubble wrap instead of the item for a return

I sold a camera recently for around 1k but the buyer said it was broken. I checked it before I shipped and the whole camera had no problems. I accepted the return anyway to avoid problems and now I recieved a box of a few rocks wrapped in bubble wrap. Where do I go from here? I can't figure out how to get in contact with eBay and the only choice it's letting me have is to refund them. If I press report a problem, I can report it but it still wants me to issue a refund, which I refuse to do unless I have the item. What am I supposed to do?

So you're saying a guy with 11,157 100% positive feedback just sent back a box of rocks?

If that's what happened then the police needs to be involved because either this guy suddenly broke bad, went rogue...  or eBay needs to know that someone has highjacked his/her account.

Either way, a theft is involved.

@haydenhmltn  Read my post here https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping-Returns/Buyer-returned-wrong-item/m-p/31520396#M362993

A buyer returned something that I don't sell and I was able to get it taken care of by ebay. Hopefully you can too.

It was nice of him to bubble wrap the rocks so they don't get damaged though.

LOL- he probably bubble wrapped them so the rocks didn't tear through the side of the box with any rough edges. If the package arrived marked as damaged by USPS that might ruin his scammer plans.

@haydenhmltn- File reports with your local police, his local police, IC3 and the USPS for mail fraud. When you get all the reports in line, report the buyer and add all the report numbers to the comments field. Then contact CS and ask them to close the case in your favor.

I just read your post. I don't even have an option to refund 50% on mine, it will only let me do the full amount. Let me mention, I still won't accept loosing 50% but it is to mention I can't even do that unless there is something I am not seeing. I do, however, see the same options you had regarding wrong or empty item.

As mad as I am over the situation, I can still find a little humor out of it. I think it was just so they didn't tear the edge up like the other guy said. It could also be so the rocks don't make "rocky" noises. I don't think it would sound exactly like a camera. But yea, definitely nice of them.

I'm assuming this as well-- I bet it may be to muffle the noise of the rocks as well because they wouldn't sound anything like a camera.

The 50% option is for TRS sellers that offer 30 day returns or any seller that offers free returns. You're not TRS and the listing was no returns so you wouldn't qualify to send a partial refund.

Interesting to see you have that option to report wrong/empty item returned. I hope this works out for you- let us know what happens.

I agree, I am very confused. I managed to report it on eBay but it's still asking for me to refund by the 3rd. I'm still pretty stuck.

Yea, that was the first time I saw that option... that's why I created that post. It's totally new for me too. I don't know what enabled that option to show up for me. The CS didn't say I was in a special program or anything so I assumed everyone else should see it. But now I'm trying to look for that option on my current open returns... and I can't get that option anymore, haha. Faulty ebay programming??

But yea, definitely don't accept 50% for this. Follow Coffeebean's advise and make sure you talk to ebay on the phone (during the daytime so you don't get anyone overseas).

I can't even figure out how to reach their phone line. I've tried to look up ebay support number and it when it answers it says the number has been discontinued and it says I need to start on the ebay website. Do you know what the number would be?

Go to the bottom of this page and click "have us call you"-

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/managing-returns-refunds/handle-return-request-seller?id=4115

But get the reports in line first.
