I have an item that ebay won't let me cancel the listing on. It has 1 bidder. He also wants to retract his bid for his own reasons. I need to cancel the auction because I found out the item is defective, what do I do?

How many hours left on the auction?
If over 12 hours, then no problem. Cancel buyer's bid and then end the listing.
Under 12 hours becomes a bit more complicated. I imagine you have to just let it run its course. Cancel any bids from others buyers asap. And then once it ends for the original bidder, cancel with buyer changed his mind.

I see one item with 12 bids that ends in about 6 hours. You'll just have to let it play out.

What a drag, never fails when you are getting good bids on something.

Cancel the bid of the member who requested it.
Then when the auction has just a couple of minutes left, cancel any other bids and be prepared to try to cancel any snipe bids that come in. It would probably be a good idea to also put those members' IDs on your blocked-bidder list, at least until this auction ends..

Neither of those actions would be possible, because the auction had less than 12 hours left..
The OP has canceled the bid.

Regardless, why should the buyer have a retraction on their account because the seller listed something defective?

Since you really only have 3 bidders , can't you cancel all three bidders after sending them a note, then cancel the listing when there are no bids on it, or is that not possible? Just wondering. Or can you absolutely not cancel an auction with less than 12 hours bid or no bid?

I think you are looking at the wrong listing. I'm pretty sure this discussion is about the drone that had only one bid, which he has canceled. OP said the auction had just one bidder; the auction that has 3 bidders, all 3 of them had placed bids before the OP started this thread.
If an auction has received any bids, then the only way to end it during the final 12 hours is to sell to the current high bidder. It is not possible to cancel the bids and end the listing early with no winner if the auction has less than 12 hours left.

Your'e right, I see it now. I was so wrong! Well, nobody's perfect, hehehe. Thanks. So I guess the seller has to be vigilant for the next 5 hours and cancel any incoming bids?
04-30-2018 04:38 PM
No, he can ignore the auction and any incoming bids until it has just a few minutes left, THEN cancel any bids and be prepared to cancel latecomers. If he just starts now, canceling bids as they come in, then (1) that would be exhausting; and (2) the listing will always show zero bidders, which will just attract more bidders who hope to get it for the opening bid price.

Also (3) Somebody could use the "Buy it now" Option, which reappears when the auction has no bids, but is not available when there is a bid.
