I got hosed on this deal...

I sold an old camera I had...I really just wanted it out of my sight...it sold for 13.99 and free shipping...the flash on the camera worked perfectly when I sent it...the buyer issued a return with the comment "flash does not work"...when I got the camera back, low and behold, the flash worked fine...so basically what happened is as follows...the camera sold for $13.99 (i got $11.78 deposited into my account)...I shipped the camera (cost $7.78)...so I made $4.00...then because this buyer just felt like returning the perfectly fine working camera he purchased, EBAY steps in and refunds the buyer $13.99...now I'm out $9.99... that ain't right...

You didn’t get “hosed”, at the end of the day you lost a small amount of money. Would you be able to deal with the types of losses myself and many other sellers have had to deal with which can average well into the hundreds per loss? Do you know what it’s like to take a $1400 hit? Be glad you don’t. Honestly I tell people to try to sell their items locally for cash to avoid the unrelenting nonsense they’ll find here.

I think you can expect to see a charge for the return shipping label as well. Sorry.

1st- you selling a $14 item with free shipping was your choice (for a $14 item, should be a 'shipping' cost)

2nd- if ebay 'stepped' in, it's because you didn't take care of the customer and refund them when you got it back and ebay had to do it for you. That is a Major Ding on your seller metrics- do it often and you won't be selling here any longer.

3rd- had you refunded the customer yourself, ebay would NOT have kept their fee. Because they had to perform the refund, you did NOT get that portion returned.

4th- know that all buyers have a 30 day money back guarantee- doesn't matter the reason.

5th- you say it worked when it shipped and YOU say it worked when you got it back. There is no proof of any of that on any website. Any 'selling' website will back a buyer before a seller.

No, it's  not right.

Thank goodness most people are honest.

Be thankful it was returned working and nothing missing because that could've happened.

Still, report the buyer and maybe eBay will give you a $6 shipping voucher.

Any seller that lists an item with FREE SHIPPING and then does NOT roll the shipping price into the starting price is hosing themselves.    Some seller  here lost a 2,000 computer recently .  Believe me, you did not lose much.  LEARN by your mistake and add the cost of shipping.   This one is a loss in your accounting book.  Nothing that can be done about lying customers. Hopefully, you will not get many.   Goodluck in your future sales.

Block that lying buyer so that they do not re-buy.

If eBay had to step in and refund the buyer for you, then you lost more than $.
When the January evaluation rolls around, you will see a big shiny defect on your account.

If you are selling an item at that cost, you HAVE to charge for shipping. Otherwise, it's not worth your time and effort.
And do yourself a favor by blocking the buyer. Some fool that can't work a camara or asks for a refund on 13 bucks is not someone you want bidding on your items.
I'm glad that your "lesson in Ebay selling" didn't cost you a lot.....
Good luck on future selling!
