So I got scammed on ebay, I'm a newbie to selling and well did not know people had such malice in their hearts. A few weeks ago I listed my mom's iPhone 7 Plus on ebay for 565$. A week later it was sold, the buyer paid right away and all was good. A few hours later I received a message saying that he had just bought the iPhone 7 and was very happy about it bla bla but that his cousin had recently gotten into a car accident and he needed to take care of him and that he was not going to be home to receive the item. So..... (stupidly, i know guys don't rub it in this was a stupid rookie mistake of mine), I ended up changing the shipping address and sending the phone. A few days later the item appeared as delivered in which I receive a message from the buyer that he had not received the item and that he thinks I sent it to the wrong address. I PANICKED and I went to go screenshot the message of his request only to realize it was an ALMOST IDENTICAL username but not the same username he had bought the phone from. I knew I was in big trouble then. I contacted the other username(scammer) to please send the phone back or I would need to contact authorities, it has been a week and the person is just giving me excuses. Long story short after HOURS of being on the phone with eBay they basically said that I'm screwed. So in my opinion it was the buyer who scammed me because how would the scammer know the exact identical username of the buyer. So now the buyer is asking for a refubnd and I just lost the phone AND the money. What should I do, is there any way of being able to at least stay with the money? I am DISTRAUGHT to say the least. Thank you all fror your help.

So not only do you frequently run into bad sellers, you're getting hit by bad buyers too? Terrible luck.

That's because it's the same person. It doesn't matter anyway, if they message you to change the address you are not covered, so the fact he used a different ID is just to stay of eBay's radar.
I'm sorry this happened to you.
Cheers, C.

At least you know the actual address to which it was delivered. Start by making a police report at your local police station, and use that report number as a reference when you contact the postal inspector for the post office serving that address.
The odds of your getting anything back are slim to none, but if you're determined enough, you do have a few small details here to work with regarding where it went. eBay/PayPal will not help you here; you'll need to do this yourself. Sorry...

This is why sales of phones should be restricted to active experienced sellers.
Sorry OP, your phone is gone. As others have said, call Apple and report it stolen and they will brick it.

I was just thinking: isn't there some kind of "Where's my iPhone" app that will tell you its location via a second phone, assuming that it's powered up? It would be nice to have an "I got stolen" mode, too, that will let you brick it yourself, remotely.

Something similar happened to my nephew. It ended up that the address the item was shipped to was an abandoned forclosure that was apparently monitored by the scammer to pick up the package when it was delivered. Scammers probably don't use the same address more than once.

That app has to be installed on the phone and the phone has to be attached to your Apple account. You have to use the phones Apple ID to be able to track the phone.

but I don't think we can see the buyer when looking at Sold items. so how did they make up almost exact user name ?
That's why we all believe the original buyer HAD to be involved.
