I don't understand where shipping fees go

I have sold several items on ebay and I cannot figure out what is wrong. I charge the buyer a shipping fee, but the only money I see is the winning bid. The shipping is never included after the item sells. When I buy a shipping label from ebay, they take it out of my earnings, not the shipping fee the seller paid. Where does the shipping money go?

Buyer pays eBay item + shipping + sales tax.
eBay takes selling fees on that total amount.
eBay remits sales tax to buyer's state.
eBay sends the balance item + shipping (less fees) to the seller.
Seller uses the funds to buy a shipping label.

eBay gave you the buyer's shipping money after taking out their fees so you can use it to purchase the label. View your transaction details here:

You are offering Media Mail so you should add a handling cost to cover eBay fees on shipping.

The shipping that the buyer pays is included in your "earnings."  Then it comes out of your "earnings" when you buy the shipping label.  Many are confused by this kind of rocket science.

Your earnings is what the buyer paid for the item and shipping charges.

Ebay takes their fee and if you buy your shipping label through Ebay, it comes out of your earnings.

Visit your Orders page.

Scroll to the order in question, click View Order Details.

You will see a section similar to the below:

Screenshot 2025-04-22 125323.png

In this example:

What Your Buyer Paid:

$13.46 was the paid price of the item(s).

$7.08 was what the buyer paid for shipping.

$1.22 is what the buyer paid for sales tax.

---

$21.76 is the Order Total, and the total amount of what the Buyer paid.

What You Earned:

-$1.22 Sales tax is not paid to the Seller, but to the states, so that is not included in payments to the seller.

-$2.89.  Fees are based on the Order Total above.

-$4.57 What I, the Seller, paid for the shipping label.

And in this case I was using the optional Promoted Listings, so the $1.30 was the fee also based on the Order Total above.

Leaving me with $11.78 that is added to my potential payout total for that week.

So you can see the buyer paid for shipping, I paid for the shipping out of what they paid me, and after fees was shown what I was left with.

One more additional graphic that may help......

1. Buyer Paid Shipping (included in YOUR total Amount of Funds)

2. You used the shipping 'funds' the buyer paid to purchase label for item
