I have been buying and selling on eBay since 1999. Has anyone changed their name? Will a change totally screw up my whole life? Humor me here...

I think that you can change the name of your store, but the page address of your store will not change; so the old store name will still appear in the page URL.
Previously it was possible to change the page address by reverting to the old store format, but I understand that this no longer works.
Something to consider when deciding whether to change your store name.

I still have the 7 letter name, which was the maximum name length when I signed up back in 1999. I doubt anyone give's a rat's derriere regarding an Ebay moniker.

Should be fine

I mean, there's marketing, and name recognition, and stuff like that. If you had that, you wouldn't be on Ebay forums though.

OH! you talking about store names? I don't have a store, I thought you were talking Ebay names. I don't know CRUD about stores.

You can change the store name easily enough---you can do it from Manage Store---but as someone noted, it won't change the URL, which could lead to some confusion for your buyers. Are you wanting to make the change because your current name suggests a store that is exclusively jewelry, but your store is decidedly more than jewelry? And just what do you mean when you say "everything related to it"?

When I changed my store name some years ago from The Castle of Otranto (when I sold mostly goth, cyber, darkwear and vintage hats) to Bargainz Babylon where I sell whatever, my URL updated. Given that this was some years ago, has this changed?
It didn't make any difference insofar as sales, though some of my regulars mentioned that they noticed the new store name, and people were obviously redirected and found me just fine. Had new clothing tags printed, that was about it.
BTW, I just noticed that under the under the store name in the new format it shows followers AND how many items sold - that was cool to see.

I have now learnt that Yanks spell Jewellery as Jewelry.
So thank you Jewellery by Cheryl, just another bizarre spelling oddity

I have changed my name several times. Nothing changed and my sales were not effected.

When was it limited to 7 letter name? I signed up in 1998 with a 10 letter name (paintpower) which I then changed to my current user ID.

All I remember is that I was not allowed to use m60driver and had to cut it back to m60drvr. I was selling mostly militaria at the time. Then again, my memory has seen better days.

Well, when they were first announcing the new changes to the Shores, they specifically said that. However, I think we may need some clarification now. Here's what the Stores Help page now says about it:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/ebay-stores/manage-ebay-store?id=4090
While you can change the name of your eBay Store in Seller Hub, we don't advise it because any marketing links or bookmarks created by your buyers will no longer work, and your store will also be ranked as a new site in some search engine results.
If you still want to change the name of your eBay Store, the new name can't be:
We take our role in protecting intellectual property very seriously. Before you rename your store, read our article on intellectual property rights and using eBay's intellectual property.
So, ebay is now saying: "we don't advise it because any marketing links or bookmarks created by your buyers will no longer work, and your store will also be ranked as a new site in some search engine results."
No mention of whether the URL actually changes or not.
tyler@ebay Can you check into this? If I change the name of my ebay store, does the URL now change, or not?

If you still want to change the name of your eBay Store, the new name can't be:
- the username of another member on eBay, or be misleadingly similar to the username of another eBay member
- identical or misleadingly similar to another company's name that's protected by trademark law
- a name that contains the word “eBay,” or a name which is misleadingly similar to “eBay”

Hi @my-cottage-books-and-antiques - changing the display name of the store will not change the URL, and the old workaround that @eburtonlab mentioned doesn't work any longer. It sounds like there is a project on the books for the stores team to address this, but it isn't one that has a release date I have access to.

Thanks tyler@ebay I think if I'm going to change my store name, I'll keep waiting to see if the Stores Team figures out how to change the name AND the URL.
