I am confused, are playboy magazines allowed?

In June my account was suspended for 3 days for selling playboys,  even though ebay policy to this day clearly states playboy, playgirl,  penthouse,  etc are allowed in the magazines category.  When searching ebay there are hundreds of thousands listed in magazines category,  are they allowed or not.

Someone who “knows” will come along with details but:

1. There was some change very recently to adult material, I think it might have been disallowed 

2. EBay is notorious for leaving up old policies now discontinued 

3. Never judge by what others are listing. They probably don’t know the rules have changed, but just haven’t been caught. We hear about this all the time.

1. One of the oldest unwritten rules of ebay selling: NEVER assume just because an item appears on ebay, that the item is permitted on ebay. Just as you should never assume that the speed limit on the Interstate is 80mph because someone just passed you going 80. 

2. One of the newest unwritten rules of ebay selling: NO one actually knows which magazines or books ebay will deem too "adult" for the site. The current rules are vague, ambiguous, contradictory and confusing.

@thisguysellsanything Sorry to hear your listing was removed! Everyone here is so helpful and I'm glad they were able to give some insight! The policies are vague however we do make mistakes sometimes. If you feel it was removed incorrectly you're always welcome to reach out to CS to see if it was a mistake and if it can be reinstated. Sometimes it's something as simple as blocking international buyers, or something totally different that flagged it. You can reach out to our eBay Facebook team as well, but CS can tell you for sure what the issue was.

When MP was first announced we were advised there would be issues with some categories. Adult related items was one of them. Help attached for the whys and wherefores. It's not really covered with the current help in eBay. I had to go to the original announcements with regards to MP to find. As others have noted rules sometimes can be a hit or miss. Research prior to listing anything strange is most important. 

Example: Velcrow(spelling intentional) is not permitted. You have to use hook and loop because of trademark infringements. I list ball caps regularly. Got fingers slapped first time I used that word.

As long as the listing has no nudity in the images and the magazine has no sexual activity, it is permitted.

Adult magazines that contain nudity are allowed only if they don't contain sexual activity and if no images of nudity are showing in the listing

Some examples of this include Bear (magazine), Blue (magazine), Butt (magazine), Gayletter, Mayfair, On Our Backs, Penthouse, Playboy, Playgirl, and Playguy. This isn't an exhaustive list of magazines we allow. Any adult magazine that doesn't contain sexually explicit content can be listed following the guidelines in the this policy

It would be advisable to call eBay support to file an appeal any time a policy is not applied correctly.

I figured it out, ebay bans some playboys while allowing others completely at random, the ones I was selling are currently still available on ebay from thousands of sellers

I did contact ebay, was told playboys aren't allowed, meanwhile if you search ebay there must be a million of them listed

Ebay has to be clearer on their policies

ripping on dream.store for replying to your post is uncalled for.....he does know what he's talking about....

unknown to amateurs like yourself, there are approximately (believe it or not) 38 Playboy magazines that display what is considering unacceptable....(a slightly exposed breast, etc....) experienced magazine sellers call it the "hit list"....Some of the most obvious targets are the January issues from the 1970's....those little pics in the frames are nude.......they violate policy....the most egregious issue is the December 1974.....sure, it's a playboy, but there is a visible breast right there on the cover......as is the Karen Christy Cover.....

Read the restrictions and look "closely" at the cover.....

eBay defines nudity as showing any part of male or female genitalia, anus, or female breasts where the areola or nipple is visible. The following are also considered nudity:

• Modeled clothing that is see-through or very tight and shows human genitalia, the anus, or the nipple/areola of female breasts

They are allowed as long as there is no nudity to be seen in the listing. if the cover has nudity { and some do not }  then cover it up with a little strip of paper. yes its stupid but if there is any nudity it violates the rules and would have to go in the adult magazine category. And don't go by what you see in other listings because their turn will come too. i also was suspended for 3 days for the same reason as you
