I HAVE SEEN ENOUGH, THANK YOU AND GOOD BYE!

O.K., so this is IT. I am not going to list here anything else in the future - regardless of how many FREE listings eBay prefers to throw my way! Seriously considering not even relisting the ones already listed here, though I may give them some time to run out on their own.

I absolutely HAD it. Three times in a row - with weeks apart - a buyer claimed false reasons for returning an item, in order to get FREE shipping, by leaving me no chance to refuse the return shipping cost! eBay does NOTHING to protect the sellers against these kinds of atrocities. The buyer can open a case of return with literally ANY invented reason. eBay does not ask the buyer to provide a photo, or otherwise explain the reason, making it now even harder for sellers by extending the return times. JEWELRY HAS A 14 DAYS RETURN,  per eBay's own statement. My listings of jewelry have a 14 days return, also. Not 21, not 30. eBay nonchalantly announced to change this, for absolutely NO logical reason, because so many people being currently at home, the return time-frame could actually be shorter, but definitely not longer!

30 days gives buyer plenty of opportunity to have a change of heart and mind, and simply return the item claiming non-existent "Item not as described," or even worse, DAMAGE the item and then claim that it was damaged already when sent by the seller.

I describe my items correctly, and for the most part, provide 10-12 pictures for each. I accept returns with NO questions asked, but I am not going to pay for any more dishonest buyers to claim non-existent reasons for return. Strange to note, With hundreds upon hundreds of sales elsewhere: I did not have a SINGLE return on my other selling sites, for years! Not because I do not accept returns. My feedback on other sites is also 100% with NO returns, ever.

Add to the picture eBay's continued harassment for giving them all kinds of private information and being charged a tax of 12.5% on the tax portion of the sales come July - I am out.

You are losing MASSES of honest, experienced and knowledgeable sellers - many of whom are much higher volume sellers than my little business - because you provide the most horrible customer service to your sellers, eBay!

I think I have seen enough. Totally FURIOUS about people stealing my money that I work VERY hard to earn, and will no longer expose myself to this kind of abuse.

I regret that I have EVER returned to this site, to be truthful. The way you are treating your sellers is ABYSMAL. The only entity making money here is YOU eBay - and your preferred few.

Good luck to all sellers. Looks like some of you will need it...

PW

I don't know if it will ever happen (some businesses buy out small start-up companies); but I do know that unless eBay finally hires someone who seriously looks into these issues and makes necessary changes, I will not come back. Best to you, mon ami

Thanks, it is not just jewelry, but also clothing. Some people do not read the measurements and then claim item not as described. Since most of my inventory is jewelry and clothing (many beautiful, unique and new condition), I would take a huge loss if continuing to sell here.

Stay safe, mon amie

Well, if you have lived through one nightmare and continue to experience other ones, there comes a time when you have to change the pillow, the bed or the blankets, or all. Just to experiment and try to figure out the reason.

Is it coincidence - or masterminded? That is the real question, my friend.

I have been a stellar eBay seller for over 22 years with a year or so break, when I became too busy at work. End of December last year, I thought I give it a try to list here again with the holidays etc.

Does not appear to be a good idea.

Everywhere else, people doing an excellent job get promoted and rewarded. But not here. And they want me to PAY even more - for this?

Be good

Your 14 day policy is for buyer returns for ANY reason. Buyer pays return shipping when they claim there's nothing wrong with it but they no longer want it.  But dishonest buyers will claim not as described to force the seller to pay return shipping, and they have 30 days on eBay  and 180 days on PayPal to file a claim.  Just say 2 out of every 10 people force you to pay return shipping and the return shipping is $5 then you're losing $20 every time you sell 10 items. How you recoup the original and return shipping is to add $2 to the item cost of your items.

And I am only 14 sales away from becoming a TRS (number of sales is at 86 for the evaluation period), so naturally, I wonder whether this is all just a coincidence?

Not that I care anymore.

Thank you for your input. But the issue is not that simple. It is about openly encouraging buyers and supporting them - rather than the seller - in these shady activities. It is about business ethics.

As for adding 2 dollars to the item price: eBay would take 10% and PayPal another 2.69% plus 30 cents, and come July, eBay will take 12.5% plus 30 cents of that 2 dollars, so one would then need to continue raising the price until one is technically priced out of the market.

And the current open return case comes with these options:

Select a reply

Accept the return
You pay for shipping and can send our return label or your own. Wait to get the item back before you refund the buyer.
Offer another item just like it
The buyer can still decide to get a refund instead.
Offer a different item
The buyer can still decide to get a refund instead.
Give a full refund
You fully refund the buyer to close this request. The buyer keeps the item.
Offer a partial refund
You have one chance to offer an amount. The buyer keeps the item.
Send the buyer a message
You can reply to the buyer.
Notice something? eBay conveniently pre-checked, per default, the first option for the seller: Accept the return. None of these options include a chance to dispute the return!
Yes, you can report the buyer after the case is CLOSED, to eBay, to which you will receive a cryptic response, something like, "Thank you for calling this matter to our attention. While we cannot disclose the exact type of action we took in this case, rest reassured, eBay is grateful to you for reporting the problem."

End of story. And if the buyer claimed false INAD, one does not get FREE relisting from eBay (here goes another 35 cents), and one only gets back the FVF on the sale - but nothing else, like payment processing fees, etc. So you already lost that 2 bucks plus more, that you mention adding to the item price.

AND ATOP OF ALL THIS, YOU WILL END UP WITH A DEFECT ON YOUR ACCOUNT IF YOU REFUSE TO SELECT ANY OF THE OPTIONS, OR EVEN JUST ASK THE BUYER TO UPLOAD PICTURES. EbAY WILL CLOSE THE CASE IN THE BUYER'S FAVOR.

I was a TRS for years, once they instituted the ridiculous returns policies I said "F it" and went to no returns.  Honestly, it's not worth it.  Now I keep a few (about 100) listings on eBay and cross list on other sites.  Other sites for me are the better sales platforms.  The buyers seem to be less dishonest.  In over 4,000 sales on Etsy I have had 2 bad buyers.  Period.

It's eBay, and their buyers first policies, it isn't you.  Even Poshmark & Tradesy are better but you have to  cover their high commissions in your asking price

Best of luck

Thank you for this response. I was a TRS once, too, and a Power Seller while that title still existed. But the changes seem to be too drastic and impossible to achieve the fee-saving status now.

I am hearing a lot of good things about some other sites. I am also working on my own website. Now days, anyone putting all eggs in the same basket is kind of risking it all. eBay has seemingly turned not just into an old-fashioned site, but a Tyrannosaurus Rex that indiscriminately eats up everyone, until there is nobody left in Jurassic Park. Good times for Dinos, I guess - bad news for little people.

Good luck to you, too, or shall I say - continued luck?
