Do I need to have an e bay store to set up a listing with variations, ie. size, color, price?

I've had a terrible time setting up a variations listing here - it used to be easy.

No, you don't need a store.

"How to" is another story.

It's very hard to explain it to someone.

No. But I think not all categories support variations. I think in order to find out which, you'll have to do some trial and error when listing.

 

Actually I notice you said color, size, price so you're probably referring to clothing. And we all know clothing allows for variations since they were the reason why variations started in the first place.

No, you don't need a store.

 

You have to set up a fixed price listing in a category which offers the variations format.  IIRC it doesn't work on the app, just on a real computer. Also you have to start from scratch with a fresh form, not with a relist or sell similar.

 

The "Variations" option isn't available in every category:
