How to issue a partial refund

I don't accept returns. Buyer purchased 4 items all the same part number. Says they don't fit. I decided to accept his return. However, upon delivery to me one of four was found to be broken and can not be repaired. I need to issue a partial refund. I can find no mechanism for doing so. Help!

Yes, they could also leave you negative feedback if you accepted the return.

I don't usually make a decision based on feedback.  In my mind it is usually best to accept a return. If the buyer really want their money back and you deny the return, their next step could be to file a claim through their credit card company and then you would likely be refunding without a return.

The buyer can leave you negative feedback for whatever they want, whenever they want.

So you are saying that the Money Back Guarantee for buyers, seen in every listing, is essentially voided if I buy from a TRS and discover that my purchase is not as described?

Can you show me where that change was made by eBay?

You won't find it because it is not available to you.

I believe you are most likely correct. The ole no good deed goes unpunished, ie accepting the return when I didn't have to.

In case this situation arises again, if I decline a return that I'm not obligated to accept can the buyer then leave me negative feedback?

Yep... the 'reduction' feature is a toggle that the seller slides, then enters the amount of the refund to issue.

If the buyer marked 'Doesn't fit', that would have been a remorse reason and you could have denied the Return. If the reason was  a remorse return, you don't have to refund return postage... even with a No Return policy. If the reason was 'Not As Described', you have no option... they get it all back. They can leave feedback either way.

I'd revisit my Return policy, if I was you. You're already a TRS, and you'd pick up this seller protection if you offered 30-Day Returns (or better)... I have used it successfully on a couple of occasions. We have so few seller protections. Use them.

You and I both know that this change has NOT been made. The MBG stands firmly 'iron-clad'... and will continue to.

Absolutely correct! The only choice the Seller has in such case is to file a claim with the carrier to recover some money. Ebay is allways on Buyer's side. Only the Top Rated Plus Sellers can do partial refunds.

Yes, I know that.  I believe I was trying to (subtly) point out that there has been no change in the MBG and the way it works.  And it somewhat bothered me that responders who have been around quite a long time were stating that TRS people did not have to accept returns.  If the implication was that they don't have to accept "remorse" returns, then that should have been made more clear in their message.
