I sold a brush set of 6 brushes to a buyer and she claimed I only sent her 4 brushes. I took her at her word and asked her to return the set so I could return it to the store and get my money back. The package I shipped to her weighed 6oz. She shipped back a 4oz package. It just so happened that the set was missing the 2 largest brushes and when you hold the sets in your hand, it is obvious something is missing. I sell a lot of these so I would know if the set I was selling was only 1/4 inch thick compared to an inch thick. She also didn't send back the outer cover showing what was inside so now I can't return them to the store I bought them from.
I'm not sure how to handle this, tactfully. I don't really want to call her a liar but she is scamming me, of that I am 100% certain and the weights of the packages prove it in my eyes. Should I just eat the cost or say something to her? And to make matters worse, I paid for shipping both ways.

You know and the buyer knows that those 2 larger brushes were in there.
Is there anything you can do about it? Not much. It's a she said/she said thing.
All you can do is refund and block.
If you're TRS and offer returns you MIGHT be able to deduct a % from the refund as it wasn't returned as it was sent with the outer cover.

No they gave up their seller protections for having a no returns policy.
If you had at least 30 days buyer pays on the listing you can deduct upto 50% of the refund.

That's what I thought. I rarely have items returned so I think it will be in my best interest to offer returns in the future. 50% is better than 0%.

50% of something is always better than 100% of nothing.
