Re: How to get good feedback?

Many people don't bother with feedback anymore, but whether they do or don't, you need to be a good seller.    If you represent your items properly, pack and ship properly, then you will possibly receive good feedback.

Well that is a bit too simplistic.  If that is all it took, then most transactions would end with FB exchanged because the vast majority of Ebay transactions complete with no issues.  BUT most transactions just do not end up with FB exchanged and it has nothing to do with whether either side had earned it.

Most buyers just don't see the need to leave FB.  It has been like this for years.  For myself I only get about 25% of buyers leaving FB.  And I assure you each and every one of my buyers have received proper service from me.

It's a voluntary system that most buyers just don't participate in.

Well, in all fairness the OP asked how to get GOOD feedback. In which case bigdeals gave the correct answer.

Now if they had simply asked how to get feedback (presumably of ANY kind) then your answer would be appropriate. But GOOD is what the OP asked for and it is what you earn by doing your job correctly. Basically the best way to get GOOD feedback is to follow the Golden Rule. Or use Professor Alan Derschowitz's "other foot" rule.

Re: How to get good feedback?

Hi Kevin and welcome!

Just be the best seller you can be and the feedback will come. I know it's frustrating when you're just starting out.

As others have said, feedback is a voluntary system on eBay that is being used less than in the good ole days. I receive it about 50% of the time, though I do not recommend asking buyers for it, although that is one way to encourage it. The reason I I feel it is not a good idea is because eBay already sends reminder messages for it, and some think it is risky to "poke the bear" ... no news is good news, etc. (For me, if i am unhappy with a transaction, I sometimes opt not to leave it rather than give a bad report. Most sellers wouldn't want to encourage it under that kind of circumstance, for example.)

When you leave it might have an impact on how often it is received. This is sometimes a touchy subject among sellers. There are good arguments for waiting to leave feedback until the item is received by the buyer at least, and others feel it helps to encourage buyer feedback to not leave it until the customer leaves it first. I leave it right after payment, because I don't wish to withhold it. But I am not trying to build up my score as you are.

Another thing that might help is to include a hand written thank you with the sold item. I do this to attempt to distinguish myself from other sellers by going the extra mile, so to speak.

Finally, as a last resort, one can always bolster their feedback score by purchasing needed items here on the platform.

More importantly, just keep in mind, are a seller's efforts to perfectly describe the items, take good photos, price competitively, pack generously (never scrimp on packaging), ship fast, and answer inquiries promptly.  Ebay is a business and I try to treat it as such despite being a part-time seller myself. So, good luck to you on your sales, Kevin, and please come back to the forum anytime.

Re: How to get good feedback?

Well it's obvious there is no perfect formula. But pretty much any good feedback a seller gets is earned... that doesn't mean doing things to earn it will guarantee the good feedback.

And yes, I agree about the percentages. Years ago I was getting about 33%. And for the last year or so it has dropped to 25%. I've actually been noticing the last two months I'm somewhere just under 20%. Sense the trend. I feel bad for sellers just starting out. But the path is just the same as it was before... just try to earn it. Feedback will come eventually. Just be glad it's not like Amazon (less than 1%). And soliciting is just not worth the time and risk.

Oh and I agree with @fashunu4eeuh . If I had a new account and since I don't care about feedback, I'll leave a positive for the buyer asap. It might give a small advantage, but it's better than nothing.

Re: How to get good feedback?

Here are a few  tips from the  what it is worth department

1.  Describe you item well in both  pictures (clear & close) & words -  don't  use a lot of flowery market  jargon - provide key  dimensions.

2.  Don't state  a lot of  conditions  of  purchase - that looks like a 30 year mortgage for a house  with some that  has a credit score of 400 or less- eBay Money Back Guarantee will trump any thing you  write.

3.  If  it is a used item  DON'T over exaggerate the  condition by using terms LIKE NEW or only used once (no one can validate that plus I've seen thing used  once that took a beating)

4.  Package professionaly, Ship promptly - ship  same  day or on a  Saturday ( if item was bought on late Friday.  My FB says buyers like quick ship & quick receipt.  Some sellers will wait to  ship on  Monday when it is "convenient ' for them.

5. Keep a customer first attitude after all the buyer has already  paid.

6.  Resolve issues promptly and  fairly - when in doubt do what is right -  be professional in all  communications - shouting and curse will get you no where fast.

4.  Sold for a career for 41  years and I still believe  that the  Buyer  & his money is King.  Yeah, some buyers will try to run a  game on you but nicely be always one step a head of them.

Just for the record, since January 20, 2010 ( date of  first  sale) we  have shipped 1542  items and received Feed Back on 1002 of them with only one neg.  That equal a 64.98% FB return on total shipments.  Not  gloating just  stating facts.

We have never solicited FB from  buyers, we  just  let top level customer first service do its thing.  And we always leave FB for the buyer at the time we print the shipping label - don't play the "hold hostage" game with FB.  The buyer did their due diligence when they  paid.

Read my other post in reply to the OP.

You are right.  Point taken.  My apologies @bigdeals.etc .  I responded as if you were just talking about feedback and without taking into consideration what @richard1rst stated above.

Re: How to get good feedback?

When I first started selling on ebay in 1999 I got almost 100% feedback, all good. In the past two years that has dropped to the 10% range, still all good. I closed my shop on Amazon, where I was getting virtually 0% FB! People just don't take the time to leave FB anymore. I tried asking buyers for it at first, but then it dawned on me that they might take that as an opportunity to ask for a refund! Buyers remorse. Now I just give them the very best service I can and hope they will remember me. Even buyers with very high transactions don't reciprocate! I always leave good feedback for my buyers, after they have paid. Good feedback has to be earned, so just do your part and the FB will come, just at a slower pace.

Re: How to get good feedback?

It's totally random whether you get it or not.

I'd say most buyers are just happy with their item, received it in a timely fashion and move on without giving FB a thought.

UNhappy buyers on the other hand will most ALWAYS leave "appropriate" FB, so just be as good a seller as you can be and good FB will dribble in (eventually).

I have one ID that consistently garners around 40-50% FB and yet another that gets maybe 5% (if they're lucky). No idea why. Could be the demographic of the buyers/items sold. But I don't worry about it.
