How to edit a listing when working with a buyer on shipping fees

Hello all y ou helpful people--A buyer has expressed interest in two of my listings. She would like to know how low I can get the shipping fees. I've ordered some flat-rate boxes to see if I can squeeze the items into one of the smaller ones. What do I do with the listing in the meantime? I've gotten an offer and an actual full-price payment, which I had to cancel and refund.

Can I cancel the listing temporarily? And if so, how?

Thanks very much!!

Audrey

"I've ordered some flat-rate boxes"

You do know it can take two weeks or longer to receive free boxes from USPS?

"I've gotten an offer and an actual full-price payment, which I had to cancel and refund."

You may regret that a lot when this person—she's not a buyer yet—decides not to buy from you after all. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. You threw away a sale, alienated a good-paying, hassle-free buyer, and probably got a serious defect for it. Very likely all for nothing.

I'm having a little trouble with understanding your issue.  Is the offer and the item you canceled all from the same buyer asking if you can offer lower combined shipping on these two items?

Most times you can lower shipping costs just by shipping two items together, even if it is by weight.  A flat rate box may or may not be the best choice.  If a buyer pays the higher costs before you can send an adjusted invoice, then you can send a refund of some of the postage paid.  I stay far far away from ever cancelling a paid for item unless the buyer requests you to.

I was wondering that too but then if you see message 4 above. The OP says ' I don't feel right selling one of the items while she's waiting for my reply.' I asume that means the sale would have gone to someone else except that she canceled it!

And I am not sure why OP feels more of a commitment to someone who is negotiating for lower prices when she had a commited buyer who paid her asking price with no hassles.

Whoever buys first, gets the item.  That is how it is supposed to work.

With a mindset like that, OP won’t last long around here. I mean I can understand, to a certain degree, why they felt a commitment towards the buyer who was finagling the shipping cost, they were working with that buyer in good faith and well there are quite a few threads from buyers who had items bought out from under them while they haggled the price BUT what I don’t understand is the total disregard for the buyer who bought and paid for the item and the failure to realize what they’ve done. Just don’t get it.
