How to close a case when buyer is unresponsive?

I listed an item for sale via auction and the auction ended.  I sent a message to the buyer to arrange for inspection, PayPal payment, and pickup as listed item clearly stated "local pickup only" (large, heavy item, not feasible to break down, pack, and expensive to ship.)

After two days of NO response, I went to the Resolution Center to open a case and eBay said it was sending a message to the buyer indicating that I, the seller, wanted to cancel the order as the buyer has been unresponsive.

It is now more than four days since the case was opened, but I CANNOT CLOSE the case and I seem to be in menu hell trying to contact someone in eBay to resolve this.

What other options do I have?  Who is ultimately responsible for closing a case when the buyer never responds to repeated messages?

Thank you, and very frustrated with eBay customer support.

Michael

How to close a case when buyer is unresponsive?

Yes, ten days is a long time; so sorry you have to wait that long.

That is frustrating to be sure, but it will pass.

Good Luck, Michael!

How to close a case when buyer is unresponsive?

Just to be clear.

You opened a item not paid case in ebay after 2 days.

And then you closed it after 4 days.

And you waited four full days to the hour.

If so, call them and have them close the case in yor favor while you remain on the phone.

Something similar happened to me before. I ended up calling Ebay to get the case closed. Buyer opened a case, I responded, and then the buyer never responded. That went on for almost a month.

Just to be really clear - from the OP:

I went to the Resolution Center to open a case and eBay said it was sending a message to the buyer indicating that I, the seller, wanted to cancel the order as the buyer has been unresponsive.

So if it is a cancellation, then the OP needs to wait 10 days to close it or until the buyer accepts or denies it.

Why 10 days?

Is it because he opened it in Paypal?

That was what  I was trying to  clarify with the OP if he indeed followed those steps in opening a case.

I said "If so....

That is why I did not understand DK's post.

I thought maybe I missed something and he opened it with paypal.

You can't close it until the full 4 days is up. Meaning if you opened it at 11:00pm you can't close it on day 4 at noon, you'll have to wait until 11:00pm.

Only if they opened a UPI.

True. I thought that I'd read that OP did, but they never clarified.

How to close a case when buyer is unresponsive?

Apparently I checked the wrong box for the reason and eBay says that I have to wait ten days, not four.

I just wish that eBay would keep me informed about their attempts to get the buyer to respond instead of having to wait ten days; that's an eternity when decisions have to be made about disposition, etc.

Thanks to all who tried to help; very much appreciated.

Michael -- You shouldn't have made a cancellations: you will get a defect for this on your selling account and a couple of them and you lose your selling privileges.  What you should done is open an unpaid item (UPI) case for him not paying.  These are two totally different animals and done in very different ways.

It was for local pickup only to be paid at pickup.
