I bought 2 bottles of vitamins, finished one and decided I want a different formula, so I listed the other. Long exp date, still unopened. Showed a picture of front and back and also copied the list of all ingredients, warnings, everything. Someone bought it and 2 days after receiving it says he is allergic to the first ingredient listed and wants to return.
I am tempted to make him return it and then refund minus my shipping and fees, but would just throw the bottle away anyway, so what should I offer? He has not opened a return, has just written that he wants to return.

We would wait till they open a return through ebay. Then return ,refund, block. Best regards

What was your return policy on them?
If you said "no returns" and the listing clearly indicates the ingredients, I would ignore and then if they request a return or open a case, call ebay and have it closed in your favor.

They had the 30 day return I offer on all my other items.
The last time someone wanted to return an item, my choices were something like buyer returns for refund, offer a partial refund now and something else, but that was a while ago and I don't know what the choices are now. I DO remember that once the item was returned, I was not given the choice of how much of a refund I had to give and I don't think I should be out MY shipping when this buyer clearly didn't read the description

Accept your buyer opening a remorse return.

Since you have that return policy, you will have to accept it. I was thinking on something like vitamins, once opened, there would be no return.
For some reason I was thinking they opened it and that's why I was thinking no return but if they didn't open it, just have him open a return for "don't like"
He'll have to ship it back on his own dime but you will be out your original shipping I'm sorry to say.

Well, if you've seen a couple of the more recent posts I've made, you probably could've guessed how this would turn out. I know I had a pretty good idea.
I wrote to the buyer and told him to open a return request but NOT to use defective or damaged reason, since he should have read the ingredients and not ordered in the first place. I also called eBay and gave them a heads up and heard a long explanation about how the buyer would get a warning if they chose one of those reasons, since it was clearly their fault for not paying attention. Not 10 minutes later the buyer opens the return and lists "defective or doesn't work" as the reason. I offered a partial refund, minus the shipping I paid and said I thought that was fair, since the first ingredient listed is the one he is allergic to. Heard nothing until today, when he rejected the offer and again said there was no other choice he could make. Like "I no longer want the item", perhaps?
Got back on the phone with eBay, who were of course, sympathetic and asked what outcome I would like to see. I told them I don't want the item back and think the guy should have accepted my offer. So the return was escalated and the rep said don't worry about anything else. Thank you GOODBYE. And so the outcome was... wait for it... eBay reimbursed the buyer in full. Yes, no money out of my pocket, just ANOTHER buyer rewarded for not reading descriptions or taking responsibility for their actions. That makes 3 in about 2 months, 2 of them because the buyer either didn't bother to read the description or didn't research before buying.
Rant over. Have a great holiday everyone
