I have 1 return that was opened over 5 weeks ago and 3 others that were opened over 4 weeks ago. I read the announcement that said buyers have 21 days but 4 and 5 weeks is more then 21 days...

That is 21 business days, not calendar days.
So your buyer hasn't shipped back the items on any of them? Or are they missing in transit?

They haven't shipped any of them. Some messaged me and told me they decided to keep the items.

And on that not as described one they told me I sent them a kids size jeans instead of womens. When I contacted them they told me they made a mistake and the item that was kids size was from a different seller.

If they were my returns, I would contact Ebay and try to get the ones where you have emails that they are going to keep the items closed in your favor. Making sure you point out to Ebay specifically this can be verified in messages.
https://www.ebay.com/help/home
Drop to the bottom of the page and the email option is there. Or you can click on the reason for needing assistance and the options for contact will display. For some of them that could be the ability to call, leave a message for a call back, email or live chat.

The seller’s help center give you the ability for file for certain types of assistance.

It's important to be aware of where you post a question on Ebay’s Facebook page. A comment on one of Ebay’s marketing posts won't be answered, but comments posted directly on Ebay’s page will.

I thought they will no longer close a return if you call in?

Yes, have this up and read it to the eBay rep when you call or chat:
Changes to handling return requests that appear abandoned
Starting April 1, 2020, eBay will no longer close returns early at the request of a seller when the buyer has not shipped the item back. Instead, eBay will wait to ensure buyers have sufficient time to provide proof items they requested to return were shipped back. If eBay does not receive proof of shipment from your buyers while the return requests are active, eBay will protect you by removing any negative or neutral feedback left on that transaction.
Also, it's a pandemic-extended 21 business days for the buyer to print the return label, and then a pandemic-extended 15 business days after the buyer misses that deadline before the request closes.
From Tuesday, April 21, 2020 + 36 business days
Excluding Weekends and public holidays
Result: Thursday, June 11, 2020

This is true about waiting the 36 business days. Ebay CS actually told me it was 35. But still, don’t count on it closing out automatically when it hits those dates.
Please refer to my post here are two returns that have passed about 40 business days https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping-Returns/So-much-for-returns-timing-out-amp-closing/m-p/309615...

I have the same problem but having read this thread I am coming to the conclusion that these extended deadlines may actually work in the seller's favor, that's all I'm going to say in that regard.

I also have another (3rd overall) return that was filed/accepted on 4/2. So it’s been just over 36 business days... hasn’t auto closed yet. And as mentioned before, I don’t expect it to auto close since my previous two didn’t. That seller update automation either hasn’t been implemented in the back end, or the update is just a lie.

Depends on the reason. The OP has emails to prove the buyer has said they aren't going to return the items and prefer to keep them and weeks have passes since then. I think their chances are good that Ebay will allow them to close. But we won't know until the OP actually contacts Ebay and see what they will say about it.

Yes ,, they've extended the time buyers have to return items . This is supposedly because most people are stuck at home in lockdown so they need more time to send purchased items back. I received a message from a buyer saying the keychain she purchased was missing the most important and pricey charm and she demanded I send her a free replacement keychain ASAP . I asked her[ in keeping with my free 30 day return policy] to send it back and she would receive a full refund. However she replied with another demand to send her a free replacement ASAP instead . Since I had previously offered her a solution I ignored the second request. So now she's begun a return and the reason she stated was for missing parts and she had asked the seller for a refund and got nothing '' -This is what she wrote . No she did not ask for a refund ,, she asked for a free replacement . I've kept the correspondence as proof . She's had this item since April 29th so now since they've extended the time for returns she can keep it, use it for another month and I must issue a full refund once she decides to ship it back. Seems e bay is becoming less seller friendly each passing day . BTW the charm was not missing from the keychain ,, the buyer removed it . Tulips
