How long have you been selling on eBay?

There's another thread on here about "Happy Anniversary" but I didn't want to hijack that thread so will start a new one.

I've been selling on eBay since August 4, 1998.  (Started on another ID)

eBay was founded on Sept 3, 1995 so it took three years for me to even find out about it.   A lady told me about this "computer site" where she sold jewelry.  I had never heard of it.  Of course, I don't think I even had a computer until right before the time I signed on to sell.

Started on January 7th, 1999. 

At that time I was the director of the county humane society (no kill...a really lovely rescue).

This was in a college town and we literally had a waiting list for hiring college kids as kennel cleaners.

One morning as I was doing paperwork, a cleaner came dancing in and announced she had made $300 selling a CD on this internet site called eBay. Wait....what now ???  BTW, I never forgot what that CD was - a 1995 promo release of Joan Osborne's Relish.

As a collector of so many old things, an auction /thrift/ estate sale junkie...I started researching the site and four months later I quit my position to sell full time.

Sure, lots of things have changed around here....but, man, in the early days....what a rush.

Selling on 2 IDs since 2005, on eBay since 2003 or 2004. Hung around on the boards learning for the first year or so. Plan on selling my house and moving closer to grandkids in 2026 so may only be selling for another year or so.

September of 1997 to December of 2004 first time around full-time (under a different ID), part-time off and on between 2004 and 2023 (in the UK and US), back to full time since then.

We computerized in 1995 and had an online auction (on alternet) later that year, before Pierre.

I forget exactly what my first purchase was, but it was also the first sale for the seller I was buying it from, and neither one of us had a clear idea of what the heck we were doing. I got something wrong with my payment, and then the seller cancelled it by mistake and sent me an email in a panic about it, but between the two of us we got it figured out somehow.
