I have a large but relatively light item that has gained a lot of interest, but the retail shipping price makes it hard to list at an attractive price. Is there a way to offer the discounted "Ebay Price" shipping directly to buyers on the listing? Or do I have to create a promotional shipping discount and estimate the discount to apply?
The item boxed up is 39"x38"x13" and weighs 18lbs. UPS will ship the item non-freight however the retail cost is nearly double.

The shipping calculator in eBay listings defaults to show the retail price, but you can turn it off in your site preferences, look under "Offer carrier-specific discounts":
Remember that you will be paying a final value fee based on whatever the buyer pays for shipping; you might want to tuck in a handling fee to help cover this. And most carriers charge a significant surcharge for oversize items; I don't know quite how this works with UPS, but it's unlikely that you'll pay the regular 18-pound rate.

Heavier items simply aren't good to sell online due to the high cost of shipping. Also, 18 pounds is not "relatively light" by any means, just saying....

That can be done but applies to all listings. I think it's helpful as buyers see a lower shipping option and that can be the reason they buy from you.

If you still want to use calculated but have a specific listing show up cheaper shipping to buyers then put in a lighter weight at the same dimensions on the listing, it will show up cheaper but still catch all the proper size surcharges and all that.
The obviously use the real data when shipping it.

I wanted to sell packaging cooling cushion-type foam 16"x25"x2". I package 7 pieces inside a 20"x 16"x 12" box and it weight 6 lbs. If it costs $10 for ground shipping, then it isn't worth to list as I don't think I can sell for $17 or so. Question: I saw people selling 10 feet roll bubble wrap for $6 or so with free shipping. How can he make money unless a big but large item cost $2 or less to ship?
