I got a super raw deal and received my one and only defect. I sold some shoes and somewhere along the way they were stolen before the authenticator received them (supposedly). Well I don't know what happened but within an hour, before I even knew there was an issue the buyer received a refund and Ebay forced closed the sale and I was given a defect because there was no resolution between me and the buyer so they had to step in.
They didn't even attempt to contact me, but the funny thing is they close communication between buyers and sellers as part of their authentication program. So how am I suppose to resolve it if I can't communicate with the seller? So essentially I got a defect because someone stole my shoes.
I tried to appeal it but the system wouldn't let me (of course). I know different defects have different timelines, how long would you say mine would take?

I think you'll suffer a 12-month lookback period. Bummer about your situation.

On a related topic I never bothered to see this since the "no seller resolution" defect is probably the simplest to control. Except in the OP unique case, sorry.
But is ebay really double-dipping on this metric percentage? I see in two areas where this percentage is being weighed to kick you out of TRS. One says anything over 0.3% and you go to below standard. The other says anything over 0.5% combined with OOS and you go down to above standard.

That's what I assumed, I just didn't know if it was going to be that or it was permanent

Sorry this happened to you. While the defect will appear on your account for a year you can overcome the negative affect by being a stellar seller. Avoid late shipments, respond immediately to buyer inquiries, requests and open returns.
I have 2 defects on my account for late delivery. Not my fault. I shipped early and the post office delivered past the estimated delivery date.
It's a darn shame sellers are punished for actions beyond their control.
A year seems like a long time but hopefully you will be so busy selling and shipping it will fly by.
Best wishes,
BJ

Doing everything right after you receive "defect" punishments does nothing. Your ranking is reduced and nothing will change it until the actual defect comes off. It's another one of eBay inept policies. Some defects, like late shipping label scans are completely out of sellers control and punishing them for it is idiotic.

Once you dip below that .50 % defect rate, then you as a seller basically become "chopped liver" without any way to redeem yourself except the time element. Not sure who makes these policies, but they definitely need a revision. It is becoming more and more difficult to sell for profit on the platform.
When these inept policies affect Ebay's trending bottom line, which may be sooner than later in this economy, then it will change.
