So I sold a sleeping bag for $30 plus shipping under a promoted listing adding an additional 9.5%. So I should be charged the standard 12.9% ($3.87) plus 9.5% ($2.85) plus $0.30 which would be $7.02 leaving me with a profit of $22.98. Well that would be true if eBay weren't scam artists. So the person who bought it was charged a total of $30 for the sleeping bag, $19.27 for shipping, and $2.85 in tax coming to a total of $52.12. Well ebay charged me the fees based on the $52.12 so 12.9% ($6.72) plus 9.5% ($4.95) plus $0.30 equals $12 and I still gotta pay the $19.27 for shipping and I dont receive the tax. $52.12‐$2.85 tax means i received $49.27. Well $49.27-$12‐$19.27=$18.... so I was charged a total of 40% to sell on ebay, what a scam. How can they claim they only charge 12.9% or 9.5% for promoting when this clearly isn't the case?

How is it fair to charge me 40% to sell on ebay?
If you agree to it, it's fair.

@tater35,NEVER offer free shipping - that's a killer right there and will greatly cut into your money. Everything else is stated very clearly in eBay's terms
Free shipping has not killed me. On the contrary i believe free shipping is one of the reasons I have grown as quickly as i have. The buyers love free no matter what it is.

Post is from September, 2022. OP currently has several hundred listings, so perhaps resigned himself to the fees. Or found someone who was better at math to help him.
