I am pretty sure you can't say "cash only".

On pickup only items you are allowed to post cash only

Why?
to protect the buyer?
but buyer is expected to examine the merchandise upon pickup,so he knows what he is getting.
but as seller ,you dont want to accept PAypal as you have no way to prove tracking from commercial carrier if he filed item not received.
there is a case a few months ago,a guy sold his 50 inches TV set local pickup only but he delivered the set to the buyer.
then the buyer said I dont have enough cash, can I pay you via Paypal.
He said fine, when he got home,he has a notice from Paypal saying buyer did not receive the item.
there is another $25k case of a watch, the buyer used his Paypal account which has no shipping address (folks who use Paypal to make digital payment do not need to enter a physical address),but enter his address in the comment field and the seller called Paypal and ask if it is safe to ship to that address.
Paypal rep said safe,so she shipped.
Buyer filed INAD and Paypal robot compared the address she shipped to with his Paypal address which is blank,so she lost the case.
SHe kept appealing and lost.
She did not ship t o the address in the Paypal payment notice, which is blank,
aka she did not ship to a blank address

Allowed
- PayPal
- PayPal Credit
- Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account
Your payment is safe and secure. You can choose to save your card to your eBay account. Remove a saved card any time by going to My eBay > Account > Personal information.- Payment upon pickup
If you offer payment upon pickup, you'll also need to offer one of the approved electronic methods, and may include this statement in your listing: "Contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup."
It doesn’t say I can’t say cash only.

that's just nonsense that ebay expects a seller to offer an electronic payment for a pickup order.

You would have to have rocks in your head to accept anything except CASH payment for an item listed as Local Pickup Only.
A variation of the PayPal scam is to fund the payment via Credit Card.
The scammer buyer pays via 'electronic payment' [includes paypal], picks up and then pulls the Charge Back trick claiming no goods delivered.
Local pickup is my prefered trading method.
Goods inspected at time of payment.... No anxiety over sellers packing methodology... No anxiety over shipping sytem breakages and associated claims process.

How do you make it 'work', @booksnstuff_8
Make it absolutely clear in the item listing:
When organising the pickup date, make sure you are not alone at home.
I've never had any problem meeting the seller at a public location if they are the timid type, which has been better when closer to home. [ I trade in smaller fragile collectibles... occasionally large pieces that are too risky to ship due to fragile nature.]
Hope that helps.
