For the first time in years, I have today had two buyers buy two items. I went to send them each an invoice, since I combined shipping into one box, and SALES TAX showed up on the invoice on BOTH of them. I am not a business...I am just an average Joe selling stuff I've had for years!

Actually businesses all across America can get sales tax exemptions for items purchase that they resell which is when sales tax will be applied.

No, you just never noticed and how many items has nothing to do with it.
The laws changed a couple years ago. But the fact is, this is the way now.

It's not the number of items.
Sales tax is collected if the item(s) are bought by someone who resides in a state that has a sales tax and that ste has enacted "markplace facilitator" legislation requiring eBay to collect and remit the tax to that state.
Plus, every state with a sales tax has a lengthy list of items that are not subject to sales tax, and those exemptions vary from state to state. I might buy something from you and ow no sales tax because it's non-taxable here in Pennsylvania, while my friend in California might buy the same item from you and have to pay sales tax on it. I might buy three items from you, and two of them are taxable in PA and the third one is not. And so on.
Just let eBay do the work. That's part of what you're paying them for.

None of that is relevant for eBay sales. eBay must obey each state’s Marketplace Facilitator law.
”A marketplace facilitator is a "dealer" and is required to collect and remit Georgia state and local sales taxes on facilitated retail sales sourced to Georgia if the total value of the sales price of its taxable retail sales sourced to Georgia, combined across all its marketplace sellers and the marketplace facilitator itself, equals or exceeds $100,000.00 in the previous or current calendar year.”

the sales tax on a single and/or 2 or 3 of the same item is the same.... it's a percentage that changes with amount cost... if you pay sales tax on an item that cost 19.99 are you saying if you buy 2 of them you should only pay sales tax on the first one you bought but not the second one or 3rd one? The sales tax does not go to the seller either, by the way. Hope this helps. Ebay does not explain this as well as they should or could have and its how retail works, unfortunately, there are overheads and costs , etc.
