The only way you deal with a legitimate buyer is the buyer bids or buys thru the eBay listing.  They then pay thru eBay checkout.  You will receive notification from eBay that says buyer paid and it is time to ship.  Then you ship ONLY to the address eBay gives you which is the address the buyer confirmed on eBay check out.

Do not respond to scammers who do not purchase thru the listing but contact you via messages or emails offering more than you are asking.

There is no way to do that; but you can look at their feedback number (number in parenthesis); you can also see their sign up date by doing that. 

BUT- even if a zero like you are, and brand new doesn't make them 'not legit'.

You won't know until the sale ends.  If you want legitimate buyers, don't use the auction style listing.  Use fixed price buy it now with immediate payment required checked off.  NO best offers either.  

I stopped listing auctions style many years ago and now when I have a sale I am always paid.

How do you find out if the buyer is legitimate? Upon checkout, you have the buyer's name, address, phone number. With this information you can easily do a quick Google search to retrieve a treasure trove of info about your buyer.

This is what I will do if I'm really wary about a buyer. Let's not forget we live in a modern digital age where one's misdeeds are impossible to hide.
