Negotiated with buyer because of issues they'll pay return shipping. However on my end in return case after "accept return" there seems to be no longer ANY option to deduct an amount for shipping or to change the amount of the refund?
I pretended to go thru to issue the refund, hit next, and theres no options other than "refund buyer".
Am I missing something?

Was the return case you reference a Not As Described claim?

doesn't work or defective was set.

also in the message for the refund before i hit next there is a text box that says
"Give the buyer a little more info (required with deductions)"

Everything (including postage both ways) is automatically refunded with a 'doesn't work' or 'defective' return.

where can i see that at? Are you saying I dont have to pay for a return shipping label that I issued to the buyer?
Double checking payment amount after fees, and the amount to be refunded(but not actually finalizing the refund) it showed X amount that is the same amount I got after ebay fees.
Only deduction I saw was the Fee credit they are giving me back.

When a buyer invokes the defective reason for a return, the seller cannot negotiate a partial refund. You must refund in full, and pay for return shipping of your item. This is why there were no provisions for you to issue a partial in the case.
This is part of eBay’s Money Back Guarantee policy, see link below.

well then what the heck option does the buyer need to select so i can issue a partial refund during a return?
This seems so deceptive....so what was correction action for me to do? do a return thru messages unofficially, and send my mailing details thru a message then do that? Then after all that send refund and adjust the amount? Seems sketchy for both parties.

Auto refunded without having to return it? The OP said "accept return" but then said only option was to "refund buyer". I think they may be confusing the 2.

If they're already opened a return case they can't change that, and you can't issue a partial refund or adjust the amount. Just accept the return and it should all be automatic. Ebay will send them the return label. Don't refund until you get your item back.

When you sell a defective item that does not work the buyer always gets a full refund. You cannot expect a buyer to have to pay anything for a defective item.

If the buyer is willing to pay for return shipping, just tell them to NOT print and use the label sent to them, and to purchase their own.
That way only the item + original shipping will be refunded, since the return labels aren't charged until used.

I doubt it idk ill message them.
It seems I shouldve did a return thru Dm messages versus uses ebay return system, cause basically anything they select on there screws the buyer over in terms of any negotiation or partial refunds.
I couldve issued a partial refund from the get go but then how does ebay track a return then without opening a return case? Is that even legal under ebay rules?

I just went through something similar. The buyer insisted that the power supply was wrong even though it is the one that came with the unit. So then they initiated a return and I got stuck paying shipping both ways because they said that it was incorrect. Pretty much sucks and now I’m sitting here wondering if it’s even worth selling on eBay anymore.
