Long time member just don’t know how.
Have unfortunate saga to relate.
Basically have not any returns for years.
Sold something buyitnow. Costly.
Its getting supposedly returned. Not back yet.
Buyer said tracking receipt back is in his car & he can’t get to it.
Buyer left total 37 feedback for sellers; 6 negatives 1 neutral. Even his regular positive feedback left for him have problems. 1 positive feedback left for him said police needed to be involved. Others were also bad. He called sellers liars, etc.
Dont want this obviously on my account.
How do I do the PayPal refund &what do I click on eBay to do this with no defects on my account, or problems & to get a full refund from eBay?
Want to avoid this “buyers” wrath.. Want to end this non-transaction easy Peasy .
It was a game changer. Not ok to be a victim here with no protection from elements.

6 negatives out is 37 left is a lot plus 1 neutral.
I have been dealing with him for a month and it’s been awfully stressful.
He’s just no good.
I don’t know what’s happening, if I’m getting back the item or not, where it is,
what he has next up his sleeve...
The next time he contacts you send him this message:
Dear Buyer:
Please open a Return Request through the eBay system.
Go to your Purchase History and select "Return this Item" from the dropdown menu.
If you have already purchased return postage, enter that Tracking number into the Return.
If you have not yet purchased postage, a return label will be issued through the Return Process and you will have 5 days to get the package to the Post Office.
We will Refund you as soon as the item is delivered back to us.
Using the correct procedure protects us both and allows eBay to see that there was a valid return and refund of the item.
Thank you.
Seller.
----
If he leaves a neg, come back here and someone can tell you how you might be able to get it removed.
But the first thing is to get your item back ... and to have it on file that you worked with the buyer by offering and accepting a return.
Do not refund until you have your item back.

I would not keep contacting them. If they open a return case, then I would deal with that. I have a buyer currently that told me they are returning an item, no return filed, no item has arrived, and no contact from me unless I hear or get something.
With returns handled as they currently are, I don't think any seller can go on vacation without at least checking their account daily to see if any request needs to be responded to. I believe we only have 2 days to issue a refund upon the return, so that would also have to be considered if away from home. You have some time if they haven't even filed a return request yet. Many never do, some may hope a seller will get antsy and give them a refund or change their minds about returning.

It sounds like your buyer may be developing a habit of using complaints to get whole or partial refunds. Its summer time so I doubt his car is buried in snow and he can't get to it ,, what other reason would someone have ? . I tend to doubt his story myself . Tulips

So your answer is yes, you really are willing to pay him off to attempt to stop him from writing bad words in your feedback. How much are you willing to pay? What if it doesn't stop him from leaving what you consider "vile" feedback?
Why have you been dealing with him for a month? Have you not tried to say RETURN FOR A REFUND, and then ignore/not respond to anything else? Or is the fear of a negative feedback so driving you that you must cater to his every whim?
If the worry of getting unfriendly words in feedback on your eBay account is causing you such emotional distress, perhaps selling to the public is not the best choice for you.

I did immediately say return for a full refund but then after many days did not receive a tracking number so I then emailed & asked for the number.
Am not afraid of a negative. Don’t want one sure but
just saying EBay needs to do a better job of protecting sellers from a “buyer”
like this one with a track record of dissatisfaction and rage about his purchases against sellers.
Even his positive feedback says police needed to be involved!
He uses buyitnow and then you are stuck.
I haven’t had any returns for years So was unsure how to do it so I came here asking instead of calling customer service.
My EBay Commission is high on this transaction so I wanted to do it correctly.

Buyer emailed above July 28, 2018.
August 7th today.
No package, no tracking number, no contact, no eBay or PayPal information re: item return.
What is going on?

not refunding him, if I don’t do what he wants.
a scary dude.
And then again won’t PayPal just take the money away from me?
ebay took a big Commission on this sale too.
If buyer hasn't started a return through Ebay or Pay Pal, do nothing, unless you get your item back, then you can refund. But don't refund until you get the item back.

Nothing. Nothing is going on.
Until you actually receive a package back, then nothing will go on.

Ring returned. Same.
Ask him to make an eBay claim desire not to complete transaction?
Is that how to next proceed?
Then he puts in transaction tracking number back to me.
Then what?
I refund by PayPal?
Have not had any returns whatsoever for many many years...
Sorry if I don’t know how to do this properly with all rule changes.
Trying to void EBay Commission charged back to me.
& refund his money easily now...
Pitfalls to anticipate?

I called eBay and they said he has to open a return request so I just emailed him that fact to get the refund which I am all ready to do since I now have my diamond platinum ring back.

If you have your ring back, just go to PayPal and refund him through the original transaction.
Make a note on the refund that the refund is for return of the ring, received on date.
Send a message on eBay:
"I have received the Return of the ring.
A refund has been issued through PayPal"

Refunded through PayPal but shocked when I went to refund his additional shipping fees back to me, I found nowhere is his Email address.
Why did EBay take this information away from us?
I now had to email him through eBay messages asking for his formal email address to send him this payment. The PayPal form didn’t let me add any extra amount to the given refund.

You refund the original payment through the original PayPal transaction ... otherwise, there is no record on that transaction that the amount was refunded ... and that transaction can still be disputed 😞
If you need to send additional money ... you use a separate transaction for that amount only.

Yes I know but now there is no buyer email address with any notifications.
Had to ask this person through eBay messages for his regular email address so as to send him the additional postage he spent sending me back my ring.
ebay no longer provides it with notifications of our sales, Nor is it available on PayPal.

Look at the eBay sales record. eBay shows the email address of the buyer for 45 days after the sale.
That address may or may not be the PayPal email though .... so just send an email to that address asking the buyer what their PayPal email address is.
