How do I cancel an open unpaid case?

On Friday, my auction for an Iphone ended with a winning bidder. I sent an invoice the next morning and received a response from the bidder that they did not bid the last bid on the item, and it must have been one of their children. I posed the question, "Are you going to pay for the item?" I did not receive an answer after 24 hours and opened a case Monday morning. The bidder is contacting me asking why I opened the case against them as they did not make the final bid, it must have been their child.

I am getting ready to leave for vacation for several weeks and would like this to just be over.

How do I make this go away without having to pay any fees? (I feel like I did nothing wrong, but I am made to feel like I did something wrong for opening the case.) When I went to the resolution center, it said I cannot cancel before Thursday night. Is there any way around this?

Aren't buyers responsible for purchases made on their account, even if it was their child? This is a new one for me, almost making me want to quit selling.

yes they are responsible & that excuse is used frequently. the kids bid, the cat, the dog. you need to let the upi run its course, after 4 days without payment you can close the case & get your final value fees credited. the "buyer" will get a non-payment strike. add the deadbeat to your blocked bidder list as well.

Thanks for your response! As an educator and a parent myself, I feel we are responsible for our kids' actions. This buyer was starting to make me feel like I was in the wrong for wanting payment!

what you want is payment or at the minimum your fees back. if numpty sends a message just say its how you get your fees back. its too late to cancel once the upi is opened. tough noogies to them

Re: How do I cancel an open unpaid case?

It's not possible to cancel the UPI once it's opened. If the buyer pays it will automatically close. If the buyer doesn't pay then you can manually close it 96 hours (4 days) after you first opened it.

Just make sure that you are proactive about closing it so that you can recoup your FVFs. If you let the case time out then you will not get your FVF credited and the buyer will not get a UPI strike.

While this next part is unsolicited advice, I hope you will find it helpful:

iPhones are a very high-scam item and you have relatively low FB. That can make you a target for scammers. If you relist the phone after the UPI is closed out, then consider listing it as a BIN with IPR. Go to your account settings and set up international restrictions (ask if you can't find it!) and sell this item to US only.

Thanks for your work as an educator! There are a few educators in my family and I know how much work that requires to do the job well, and I know what an important job it is. heart
