Have you tried the "Personalize your Overview" option at the bottom?  Should let you remove content from the overview.

what about at the top right 'customize' ?

So I was finally told by an ebay rep that I can't remove it. Oh, well.

You can't control what's shown in the Tasks box. You can, however, customize your view to remove the Tasks box.
