How Do I Ship Perfume?

Got stuck listing a bottle of Chloe perfume for a friend.

This is not my territory. And it will be a quick sale.$_57.JPG

I prefer to use the USPS post office...no eBay shipping label and only going domestic.

I guess it goes ground. Or should I use UPS or FedEx? I would walk it to those locations if needed.

I have no idea of cost. Does anyone out there know the cost and what service to use.

It's 3 oz. Any restrictions not selling this brand?

Priority Mail is considered Air and not allowed for perfume. Perfume is surface mail only so you were lucky you were never caught.

Re: How Do I Ship Perfume?

Welcome to the wonderful world of hazmat shipping.

Ground and requires a proper label to indicate it is hazmat.

  • Wrap the bottle in several layers of bubble wrap and tape it around the bottle to create a cushion.
  • Place the wrapped bottle inside a sturdy, small box with at least 4 inches of space all around the bottle.
  • If packing more than 1 bottle in the same box, make sure there is plenty of space in between the bottles and that they don’t touch each other.
  • Fill any extra space with packing peanuts, shredded newspaper or air filled shipping pillows. Tape the box shut.
  • Once taped shut, shake the box lightly. You should not hear anything moving around inside the box.
  • For best results, put the recipient’s name and address inside the box as well. "

They probably should have made that last one Step 4 instead... 😂

@12345jamesstamps : Why would you want to pay MORE that way than simply buying the postage on-line using the buyer funds?

If you do not have a working printer you can obtain the label as a QR code that they will then scan off your phone and print for you at the PO.

...to which I would add that the eBay shipping form does include the opportunity to add whatever Hazmat declaration is appropriate for your shipment.

I remember one time years ago a buyer complained the stamps I sent smelled.

Buyer said it wasn't my fault because probably a bottle of perfume was broken with out going mail along somewhere along the way. I got lucky.

And now sellers have to be careful because buyers are / and  / or can get mad how something is sent even if we sellers save them money for shipping.

I remember last month someone posted here about a seller using priority packaging to mail their item. Yes...it's illegal but everyone does it.

Thanks all for responses. Just want to do it correctly.

If this is a concern for you.  Put the bottle / box in a plastic bag before wrapping it up in bubble wrap.  It is an easy issue to resolve.

Usually a packing slip will solve that issue.

I make sure my address is in the package of everything I ship out, not matter what it is and I've done so for many years.

Very good point.  Most of the items will likely go Ground Advantage which is more expensive at the post office than it is when you purchase it off the internet.

As to printers.  I bought my thermal printer on Ebay well over 10 years ago and it is going strong.  It likely paid for itself in the first year because of all the ink I saved.  Now all I buy are rolls of labels for my Zebra printer which aren't that expensive.  About a couple pennies per label or so.

Re: How Do I Ship Perfume?

If you look at the listings in perfume on Ebay, you will see that Ebay must allow the sale of it. There are countless bottles of high end/lower end perfume bottles. They are full, half full and everything in between.

Under 4 oz, tape cape,  bag it for leaks, and wrap in bubble for protection.  The must ship "ground" part of perfume is the alcohol base.

Re: How Do I Ship Perfume?

Over the years I have shipped a few bottles of perfume. As others noted it can only ship via ground either USPS or UPS. However, you also have to properly label the box to indicate it contains flammable material. Even though you may ship ground USPS or UPS may put the item on an aircraft anyway. You need to have the package labeled to prevent that from happening.

@rockoman3803

That is not true.  Ebay is a private site and has the right to set what can and can't be sold on this site per the laws that govern them.  They can also deny selling any product they don't want on the site that might be legal to sell on the internet.  There is no law that can force Ebay to allow for the sale of some type of product on the site that they do not want to be sold here.

As for used bottles / partially full.

  • Listings for used cosmetics, sponges, or applicators are not allowed. This includes products such as skin moisturizers, sunscreens, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail polishes, eye and facial makeup preparations, shampoos, permanent waves, hair colors, toothpastes, and deodorants
  • Cosmetics, colognes, perfumes, and lotions must come in the original container

Re: How Do I Ship Perfume?

Perfumes that are not full are sold in the collectibles category. No biggie. I am not debating the Ebay rules. Chill a little. Have a nice Holiday.
