@effervence

Basically I got ripped off for 550 bucks

Was the purchase Not Delivered  (INR) or Not As Described(NAD) ?

ebay HAS NO WAY TO RESOLVE COMPLAINTS.

You filed a complaint?

There is a Money Back Guarantee good for 30 days after delivery or last estimated date for delivery.

Did you make the complaint within that deadline?

With INR, if the seller cannot prove delivery (not shipping, delivery) you win and you are refunded.

  • If the seller proves delivery,  you have to look to the carrier or your local police for help, not eBay or your seller.

With NAD, the seller is required to send return shipping. When the item is returned, you are refunded. If the seller does not send return shipping, you are refunded.  If the sell er refuses to refund,eBay refunds you and goes after the seller for their money.

  • Did you return the item?

FWIW- both Paypal and the credit card you back your PP account with have Buyer Protection policies. which run for  180 days from payment. You may still have time to make a claim with them.

Lower earnings make them not want to advertise. I didn't see one ad during this entire horrible season.

Some sellers are earning less, others more and yet others about the same.  It isn't news, it happens all the item, year after year with internet sales.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

Yep.  Did all that it was one big fail.  When I went to the Post Master I was told to contact 'distribution centers' because the package was received empty.  Everything is tracked but in this case the post office had no records - no pictures...the postmaster shook his head.  The seller did not or would not collect the USPS 'insured amount' for the package (maybe did but I didn't get it) and ebay told me to file a claim with my bank and I dropped the ball there (because I believed the seller would collect the insurance) and now time is expired.  It was clear to me from the start that someone at one of the 3 USPS distribution centers took the contents and expected me to go to these places which were far away.  While at the post office 3 others had the same issue, stuff missing from packages.  The postmaster said that they were busy hiring and 'new carriers' in the area were not vetted to which I responded 'isn't it your job to vet employees.  It was another lesson in how bureaucracy is created to pass the blame around.  The whole thing reminded me of learning the 'first rule of business' CYA.  I appreciate the comment I read yesterday where a seller commented about a person being miffed because he sent a package requiring signature. Sellers...do yourself a favor and require signatures it's the only way.  Also maybe don't use the USPS anymore.  All I know for sure is this is not a personal problem, it is a public issue and the USPS is a huge social problem.  I take the blame and I am out the money.  It's no one's fault but my own and the time I spent chasing this is lost forever and that's the way the system wants me to see it.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

Beyond the normal ebbs and flow one encounters in sales I think this time around we are having a confluence of things happening to slow sales. A stagnant economy and persistently high inflation come to mind. Even though it's the holiday season a lot of companies are laying off lots of employees. How much it may impact sales on this platform is certainly debatable, but one thing is for sure and that is that people are probably looking at wants and needs more closely and the needs are winning out.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

Craigstevensstudio,

As for eBay not having any customer service is NOT true. There are plenty on these boards using or have used FB messenger service to reach eBay for business customer service with very good success including myself.  Just because your refusal to use doesn't mean they don't have any customer service.

FB Messenger is a private communication system like gmail. No one is going to see your posts. I don't know why you won't give it a try instead of I don't want to us FB. You don't have to use FB in order to use their messenger service.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

And yet during the recession of 2007-2009 ebay sales held up very well - even for the "wants".   All too easy to simply blame  the economy, inflation, and lay-offs which really haven't impacted the economy yet while ignoring what ebay has done to this site over the past two years.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

It's more like what Ebay has been doing to this site since 2008 on. Mostly what Ebay does and has been doing for quite some time is virtually abuse its customer base, the sellers. I wouldn't discount what's happening in the economy as inflation has been a creeping terror for almost 2 years now. In spite of what's claimed I seriously doubt that the economy has recovered the job losses inflicted on it from the lockdowns let alone created anything new. That said I think, and again it's just my thought, another reason may be that what Ebay actually is (as opposed to what it would like to be) has finally caught up with it. Ebay is an ad venue, that's all it's ever been, all it currently is now, and unless there's a change it's all it'll ever be. Ebay doesn't purchase, stock, sell, or ship anything to anyone anywhere. It's customers, the sellers do that. It was never designed or built to compete in a pure retail environment. It can compete with other ad venues but that's about it.

Using Amazon (the company its most often compared with) for comparison Ebay generated just over 10.4 billion in revenue while employing just under 11 thousand people. Conversely Amazon generated almost 470 billion in revenue while employing over 1.5 million people. Where the numbers end up in the final analysis after the smoke has cleared is another debatable question. But the raw numbers are significant and indicative of what each company is and what they do. One provides the ad space to facilitate sales while the other is actually engaged in retail sales. It has flexibility in cost and price control. It has a fleet of ground transportation as well as Prime Air. Ebay has none of that. All Ebay can basically do to affect its revenue stream is go after its customers. Eventually they'll beat that horse into the ground assuming it hasn't already if the loss of active sellers is accurate. Considering buyers do follows sellers, how many buyers were lost in the same time frame? Why were those active sellers lost? where did they go?

Before anyone comments let it be known I have no axe to grind with Ebay nor do I have an Amazon account. I have been a member here for 22 years. I sold until 2008 when the upcoming changes weren't worth the hassles and headaches but remained a steady buyer until recently. The drop in buying on this platform is a direct result of what Ebay has become. Its long past being "THE" place to go to, now it's just another place to go to. Nothing special or unique about it anymore. I certainly do not need Ebay to purchase cheap Chinese made products. I can go 1 mile from my house and find plenty, I can go 4 more miles down the road and find even more, or I can travel 7 miles to Florence and have access to all I could ever want or need, don't need Ebay for that now do I. And on top of that I don't have the warranty issues. Many manufacturers will not honor a warranty if it was purchased on Ebay. In fairness to Ebay the same would apply to any venue that wasn't an actual authorized retailer.  We had an old saying when I was in the military, LEAD-FOLLOW-OR GET OUT OF THE WAY. They should take heed.

@theteamsetguy

https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/EBAY?tab=financials

2.28 Billion in 2018

1.90 Billion in 2019
2.98 Billion in 2020

3.36 Billion in 2021

788 Million Q1 2022

611 Million Q2 2022

637 Million Q3 2022

2020 and 2022 earnings were higher due to Covid shoppers staying at home. Investors have expected ebay's earnings to be lower in 2022 because more shoppers are going to B & M stores versus online.

Added up, eBay made$2.036 billion, more than pre-pandemic 2019.  No report on Q4 yet.

Putting the first three quarters separately makes the total look lower than it is.

FALSE. We will never know the sales that could have been if search didn’t return promoted irrelevant garbage instead of accurate results.

We will never know the sales that could have been from buyers shopping somewhere else because they always get fake Chinese garbage.

We will never know the sales that could have been without incompetent programmers that have the site down every other day.

I could hardly list items Tuesday because the categories were all F-ed up and wouldn’t load. Looks like it was pretty well off since then. Im seeing activity again this morning. I lost 40 sales likely in just the past two days because while the entire site may not be off, most of the listings are.

They are continually screwing with it and hiding a lot of items in the process. When they finally rest for a day Ill sell $4000 inside of 24 hours before they are back at it and it drops to $200 per day. My graph is a roller coaster.

    I don’t understand why they don’t care.

For everything that happens conditions exist such that nothing else could have happened.
