In my pea brain, it is simple. If we are not making money, they are not making money.
I cannot afford to pay for the extra stuff. I don't even schedule anymore. However, if the extras, are how they are surviving. Maybe it is worth paying to keep things going.

The facts are simple here. eBay is losing users. eBay's sales volume is going down.
I want everyone to think about something..... Small sellers (pickers, closet cleaners, and small businesses) that sell here, are also likely to BUY here. If they sell $100 of stuff, they are likely to spend a bit of that here. The seller who is shipping from overseas or drop shipping, isn't buying ONE thing here.
I think it's easy to forget, smaller sellers aren't just sellers. They BUY too. If they leave, you lose a buyer too.

How does the fact that eBay's expenses exceed their income affect whether people buy on the platform? Amazon lost money for a decade or more.

All my other platforms are doing great with 1 exception.....EBAY!! They seem to be utilizing more reasons for lack of sales but I'm selling great on other platforms. Got the same type of inventory too and so far, it's an amazing Q4 outside of being here.

You're absolutely right. Case in point, eBay just lost me as a user after a decade after de-listing all my listings due to their archaic policy on digital products. With all the alternative marketplaces popping up, eBay can take their 13% fee and stuff it.

I do or don't buy because eBay's revenue is up or down, as a buyer I don't care. If I find a product I need and am looking for, I (might) buy. I say "might" because it is the cost of shipping and price of the item combined that dictates if I buy or hold off.
Lack of sales is in my opinion is because of over saturated items for sale in some categories, selling items people are no longer buying and cost of shipping.

Cool, along with eBay please cite every other selling platform that has their sales "up" and/or "increasing" My sales are great and so are thousands and ten's of thousands of other sellers. Thank you, I look forward to seeing the increase on other platforms.

Small sellers ... that sell here, are also likely to BUY here.
I disagree.
I sell globally to make money.
Then I spend it locally, for groceries, my cleaner and gardener, bus tickets, haircuts, books.
The last item I bought here was possibly the only thing I purchased on eBay all year, except for discounted shipping supplies.
But I am mailing a dozen packages a week.

You are one person, of millions. One. Just because YOU don't do something, doesn't mean most don't. If it were true, most sellers were not also buyers, then eBay would NOT have offered spendable funds. Sellers were complaining up a storm about that option from the very second managed payments took over.
Every seller's intention is to make money. That's not unique to you either.

The whole year for ALL e-commerce sites has been much less than previous years due to the Ukraine bleep, the gas prices going up , groceries up everything up, and people returning to stores. Ebay is probably not any better or any worse than anybody else right now. Amazon laying off workers etc. Ride it out.

Guardian6c,
i don't know where you got your information from per CNBC ebay has made operating income pretax every year since 2018.
https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/EBAY?tab=financials
2.28 Billion in 2018
1.90 Billion in 2019
2.98 Billion in 2020
3.36 Billion in 2021
788 Million Q1 2022
611 Million Q2 2022
637 Million Q3 2022
2020 and 2022 earnings were higher due to Covid shoppers staying at home. Investors have expected ebay's earnings to be lower in 2022 because more shoppers are going to B & M stores versus online. Even Amazon is experiencing the same drop in earnings. Most likely the loss in Q3 2022 was due to write off which has nothing to do with operating earnings. Write offs are generally non recurring not a concern for investors unless they become recurring which is not the case in ebay's case.

Me thinks the cart has been put before the horse. Sales are down all across eBay which results in the corporation losing money. I don't find the number of "users" stats convincing. Its like all the watchers who never actually buy. How many actual BUYERS are there over time? What is the distrubution of sales? Are mega sellers in China getting all the sales with their subsidized free shipping? Have people forgotten eBay is a source of merch like Amazon and Walmart because there is no advertising or promotion (except for eBay Motors)? In the last year especially, eBay has done so many things to chase sellers away. Chase away sellers, fail to advertise to new buyers, you get a downward spiral of losses.

1099.Generated now over $600 in sales. Down from 20k in sales or 200 transactions. This was all apart of Bidens GREAT ECONOMIC PLAN TO NOT SCREW PEOPLE MAKING $400 K OR LESS 🤣🤣🤣

Don't forget threats from ebay that your account is at risk. Maybe we should sell at a loss so ebay can make money, which they do no matter what price a seller lists.
