I wish I was south, currently -9 degrees with a gusts of 30mph wind up here in New Hampshire. Everything creaks in the cold, the car, the house.....and me.

Know well - in January 1982 living on the far South of Chicago, it was - 26 F, wind chill -80 to -100 for 1 week. Was unemployed - receiving 8 0bucks/week unemployment, family of 4. My gas and electric bill was 650 for Jan. Made the decision to head South. Had the same experience in 1978 while living in Ohio.

LOL. Great post.

I’m out working and it’s -40 with the wind chill. Maybe I’m showing my age, but I can remember when it was like this for 80 percent of the season, let alone a short spurt. It’s easier to prepare for extreme cold than extreme heat.

I agree 100%. When the weather outside is uncomfortably cold, you can just add layers of clothing. But when the weather outside is uncomfortably hot, there's a limit to how many layers of clothing you can decently remove, and it isn't effective anyway when the temperature gets above 90, especially if there's also humidity. My niece who moved to Florida spends half the year indoors hiding from the weather. Up here in New England, I only hide when it's below zero.

Not as long as you have A/C going - lived in Texas (Central & Houston area) for 14 years - it gets hot there for certain - but enjoyed water skiing in January. Seldom gets in the 100s in Georgia been here 26+ years - last stop - never shoveled snow,

I remember 1978 in Ohio. Moved to Texas in 1981 and don't miss it for a minute. Nice place but would never move back there. It is not even on the bucket list to revisit.

Gee....I'm so happy too. In Northern Michigan we'd have 3 days of howling blizzards of 50 mile an hour winds, 3 feet of snow, sub zero temps, and all you could do is stay all warm and comfy in your home.
Because our power never went out. And I mean "NEVER"!!
Here in central Texas, we're on day 4 of no power, all the food in the fridge is ruined AGAIN, and it's costing me 30 + dollars a day to keep my generator running. All so I can keep a few LED lights on, run a couple of space heaters that have the house warmed up to a balmy 55 degrees, and make a pot of coffee.
Never got the chance to "camp out" in my own house till I moved here....."South of The Mason-Dixon Line".

I still love it here in New England. I can tolerate a month or two of this cold, its decent otherwise. I get a taste of all four seasons and enjoy them all.

I can be in the high mountains in less than a half hour, the ocean in less than a half hour, hurricanes blunted by the time they reach us, never too hot for long in summers. All in all, a good place to be.

A buddy of mine moved from here to SC, and sent me a message this a.m. to razz me about how nice and warm it was there today... I never rose to take the bait, LOL.
