Did you mean:

Henriot Quimper salt and pepper shakers and small tray.

i am new to selling on e-bay and was so excited when someone offered 100.00 right away. The as I began sending the invoices I was sent a e-mail fro the (so Called) buyer that they wanted to incorporate a 400.00 gift card with this purchase. My friends said "Red Flag". I have tried contacting e-bay and have not had success talking with anyone.

If anyone can give me any advise on this, I would truly appreciate it.

Is there any honest people anymore or am I dealing with people who try to take advantage all of the time.

Are they trying to use a gift card for the purchase or do they want you to add a gift card to the order? If they are trying to use a gift card as a payment, then have them reach out to ebay since everything is via the ebay managed payment process. As the ebay seller, you're not involved in the ebay payment options by the buyer.  If they are asking for an extra gift card on top of the item ordered, then its definitely a red flag.

Good luck.

You shouldn't have to incorporate gift cards with a sale. Cancel the order, citing 'Buyer made requests outside of the listing', or whatever the verbiage. And, yes... you'll have your share of scammers. Stay vigilant.

@laupurce0;

This is the set up for a well-known scam. I would suggest that you just reply to the "buyer" and tell them that you don't sell gift cards.

Then wait a few days. The "buyer" is not going to pay, and after 4 days you will be able to cancel the transaction because of non-payment, and the fees will be credited back to your account. It looks like the sales were on Feb 8, so you can cancel the transactions now.

Your Quimper pieces were listed for $25 - $30. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

SCAM.   Think about it:  If he wants eBay gifts cards, he can buy them himself.   Cancel the order.  Block this scammer.

Your instincts are good!  Hang in there, because most buyers on eBay are perfectly honest and nice.  You're just being targeted because you're new, and scammers hope to take advantage of your inexperience.

@laupurce0- Never take communications off eBay's message system. This person is setting you up to receive a fake payment e-mail and scam you out of gift cards.

Re: Henriot Quimper salt and pepper shakers and small tray.

Not everything involving gift cards is a SCAM.

If it were, what would be the point of anyone using gift cards?

Perhaps you're thinking about the scams where a buyer finds something, like a car, on another site, not eBay, and is told to pay with gift cards.  THAT IS A SCAM.

Maybe you meant to say that buyers cannot pay for items listed elsewhere using eBay gift cards.

But just to buy other items on eBay, certainly buyers can pay with gift cards.  (Except cars.) I've paid with gift cards before and had no problems.  These were gift cards that I was given for my birthday.

@laupurce0

Are you saying they offered you $100 for items priced much lower?  And then wanted you to add a $400 gift to the items you are selling that they would "supposedly" pay you for?

if yes, this is a SCAM.

ADD this ID to your BBL right away and report this Buyer from your transaction view.  Good luck!

Re: Henriot Quimper salt and pepper shakers and small tray.

One well-known ancient scam is they want to send payment outside of eBay (usually with a paper check - third party fake checks a specialty) and for you to send back change in the form of a gift card.  AS IF.  It's still used on other sites with local pickups.   If they are trying to get the OP to send the "buyer" a gift card, it's a red-letter large print SCAM.  "Per USA eBay rules I am only allowed to accept payment through the Managed Payments system."  If the OP never hears from the buyer again, time for a Buyer Never Paid cancellation and a quick trip to the blocked bidder list.   If they want to pay with a gift card, I agree it's dead easy. Done it myself more than once.  There are instructions on the site for how to do it, easily found by a buyer.

It is when it's done in this style.

If a buyer wants to use a legit gift card they don't need the sellers help they just enter the code in checkout, sellers would never know that a gift card was used.

This scam involves having the SELLER buy gift cards for the buyer who will "pay" for them as part of their order. A legit buyer would just go online and buy the gift card themselves.

This buyer wants to scam the OP by getting them to buy and send them a gift card which they will turn around and use to buy a phone or similar easily flipable thing off eBay. If they don't use the card themselves they just sell the code at a discount and let somebody else purchase stuff on eBay.

Bottom line, if a buyer mentions gift cards to a seller it is 99.99% a scam setup.

Re: Henriot Quimper salt and pepper shakers and small tray.

     If they are wanting you to purchase a gift card then it is a SCAM plain and simple. Do NOT communicate with them for any reason. There is a good probability that if you do nothing the buyer will not pay and after the 4 days you can cancel the sale, or eBay may automatically cancel it for you, citing the buyer did not pay.

     Even if they do pay I would be uncomfortable shipping the item since they will probably scam you out of the item with some NAD claim. If they pay I would cancel the sale using problem with the buyers address, add the buyer to my BBL and report the buyer to eBay. You are a new seller so you are a scam MAGNET.

Re: Henriot Quimper salt and pepper shakers and small tray.

Just half of buyers are legitimate? That’s a scary statistic! Can you cite your sources for that number? I’ve never seen a report like that so really curious about the origin.
