Yes, there's a (closed) thread about this already. And yes, it's still a problem. If I'm not selling any more, there's zero reason eBay needs to keep my bank account on file.
And before everyone jumps in saying "but, but, but… I have nothing to hide!", or "whelp… that information is on your checks anyway, so what's the worry?", think about what happens if someone gains access to your eBay account and decides to make a purchase using the bank account still tied to your eBay account? Good luck with that dispute.
I guess eBay just doesn't want me as a buyer or a seller any more. Seems like the only option will be to close my 15+ year account, and I certainly won't be looking back once that happens.
This is beyond ridiculous. I absolutely would not have added my banking information if eBay hadn't implied I would be able to remove it later.

Use a unique and strong password on your eBay account. Not one that is reused on all your other accounts. Then turn on Two Factor Authentication for eBay.

You should have had a separate bank account just for selling..then you can close the bank account when you are done selling.

"...think about what happens if someone gains access to your eBay account and decides to make a purchase using the bank account still tied to your eBay account?..."
maybe I am missing or forgetting something, but if you are no longer selling, gaining access to your ebay account and buying something will not be affecting your checking account on file...or will it? When I buy something it defaults to either paypal, google pay or a credit card...never to my checking account that is tied to ebay.....the ONLY time I could buy something directly from my ebay account is if I have "pending" funds...if I "quit" selling, there are no available funds
what am i missing?

When was your last sale?
eBay wants to be sure there is a way to collect from you should a buyer do a charge back.

This!
Your last sale was December 15, 2022. That means if the buyer paid with his/her PayPal account, s/he could file for a return/refund for the next 180 days--somewhere around June 15, 2023, give or take. Where's eBay supposed to get the money if your buyer qualifies for a refund?

PayPal does exactly the same thing. If you've sold anything via PayPal recently, you can't remove your backup funding source, only replace it with another one. You have to have a funding source on file just in case the buyer files for a refund.

You need to wait until 6 months after the last item that you sold arrived. Ebay does this incase of a chargeback. Then you can close the bank account. In the future, get a SEPARATE bank account just for ebay. Get one from a bank that has free checking or one that if you keep 100.oo dollars in the account, will offer free shipping. Then when you want to leave ebay, you close the bank account.
