I put together a short video for my About Store Page.....it's not really about my store, it's just a musical slideshow with photos of some of the Santa stuff I have for sale....and I screwed up the intro, it was supposed to have some text at the beginning, and instead it's just black space. But, for my first time trying something like this, without a clue as to what I was doing, I think it turned out OK.
What do you guys think?
Has anyone else done a store video?
And, no, I don't think buyers are flocking to the Store's About page, but as time goes on that will hopefully change. And doing this sort of thing is a nice break from the regular ebay routine.
Oh, link to the About page: https://www.ebay.com/str/mycottagebooksandantiques#tab1

May be, but with an operation like that I suspect the store owner has the resources to produce his own. Dude with $30k sneakers for sale and all. 🙃 We'll see a lot of sophisticated videos if this catches on because it's been available on other selling sites for a while now. We'll probably see some hilariously awful ones, too, just like the ME pages back in the day.

@chapeau-noir Yes, he might have done this on his own, I suspect ebay's involvement because he was one of the guys (I think) featured at a recent sneakers "pop-up" event ebay held, and also because it feels so much like the video profiles ebay has put out about sellers....
And agree, I think if this catches on, videos will run the gamut, from highly professional to "what were they thinking?????"....although one hopes ebay's vetting reduces that last one at least a little bit....
I just started a new thread, suggesting to ebay that they run a video contest....who knows, maybe they will?

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques I see what you mean. Sneakers! I'm thinking they probably did usher him through insofar as advertisement.

The video should be programmed here to start immediately when the buyer goes to your store. That would really be a good plan for this rather than the buyer having to click on anything to get the video to play. When I eventually do mine I will see if it works that way. It really should work that way or people may not bother to look at it.

Oh wow, that would be great with the video contest.

That would be highly entertaining.

It also can be a great tool in building trust for new buyers.

@vintagecraze50 "The video should be programmed here to start immediately when the buyer goes to your store."
The way it is set up, the buyer has to click on the little arrow to start it. I think that's by design....people don't like videos to start playing unexpectedly---especially with sound---I think over time, buyers will learn where the Store About page is, and, if the seller has a video, the buyer will know what it is and play it if they want to watch it.
But it's going to take a decent percentage of sellers actually creating videos AND a decent percentage of buyers learning they exist before this really becomes useful. Which is why I suggested a contest. And why I think ebay will have to do more than just offer the tool and then forget about it...they will need to make a real effort to make sure the tool is adopted by sellers and buyers....

Well, yes and no. I understand you want people to see it and they may not click it. BUT when I go to a site to research something and all of a sudden the site owner sticks something extraneous in my face I get really irritated. I am there to research something not have an "ad" stuck in face. I usually, and VERY reflexively, close it without looking at it. Whereas if there was a block that said something "more information about (fill in what ever) I might be inclined to look at it voluntarily.
