Has eBay helped a buyer scam you?

Opening a new thread because eBays ONLY response to the old mega thread of tons of people getting scammed, was to close the thread.

I have been scammed 5 times in the last month. 3 by the same person, using the same payment info. eBay let’s brand new accounts file “Item not as described” cases, auto approves them, and then asks ME to buy the shipping return label, or SEND THE SCAMMER CASH TO DO SO.

Unbelievable. The scammer had admitted to receiving the items as described, sent a photograph showing so, and even said he didn’t want anything back..... eBay STILL REFUNDED HIM and made him not have to return the item.

My question is, why does eBay offer ZERO seller protection? I spent probably 6 hours on the phone speaking to 5 different people, NONE of which spoke fluent English, meaning my complicated in depth problem was not TRULY understood. I could tell by the incorrect and random responses I was given.

Top rated seller, over 10 years on eBay, I’ve quit because of this. Closed my store and all, after making eBay $10,000 alone in fees and invoices in 3 months. Death to eBay.

I recommend Facebook Marketplace to anyone looking for a new venue! They ACTUALLY care for their sellers believe it or not! Facebook is way bigger than eBay too, yet they seem to find the time to have an unbiased look at a situation between buyer and seller.

eBay, I hate you and each employee with all my heart. I wish you would close up shop and all link arms and jump into a fire.

Thanks 🙂

Best of luck on your next venture.

The platforms I use typically are eBay (mostly for smaller sellers), Amazon (if its from Amazon.  I distrust their marketplace) and the odd direct from manufacturer site for particular products.  Sometimes Costco, but I usually just go in person...Maybe something off etsy once a year from a tanner I like...

I avoid:  Wish, Facebook/Instagram, Mercari, overstock and wayfair.

The reasons I shop where I do is they have good return policies.  I rarely return anything but why court drama.

I get that you are **bleep**, how much of a percentage of sales is going down the chute in those types of situations?

I go to the shool where the MGB takes precedence over most things

the OP is not metioning any big scam.do you think forced returns is a scam.

taking back return is not fun but its required to do so if you have one forced on you

ebay does not really force anything on me.I vouluntarily signed up for an easy day with free returns

I do nt want to get all worked up by a buyer who just wants to return something

ebay wants me to smooth the way for a buyer return so they come back to buy from other sellers.

whats the point in me running off a return  buyer............so they can learn to hate ebay?

Ebay ruling against you in a dispute is not ebay "helping" a buyer scam you.

So just found this thread with no intention of finding it. I wanted to know how random sellers knew I was scammed? Reason I ask is because I can't seem to find random sellers or buyers just for **bleep**s and giggles. So I get scammed and can only leave a positive review, so I left message how I was scammed with green positive dot. After 3 different buyers started talking to me.

Do you have any clue how they knew? Do sellers watch scammers waiting for negative reviews to be left? Bought a virtual pet from my daughter for $260. This happen last year.

I would assume it is because they believe it is in their best interest to do so.

Are all the freebay cheerleaders done ripping another seller yet? I mean, dispute his concern why don't you. Or do you all go to the same school and learn how to dance all around any **bleep** off sellers concerns? There is no doubt, what so ever, that the posts regarding being scammed are increasing. These scams are all over the place and becoming more and more ingenious. All it takes is to catch them and read them before they are deleted. The scammers know this is the new freebay  freemarket. They will get away with just about everything they try. They seldom loose while the seller seldom wins. The scamming posts will attest to that fact.

My take is they either don't sell items valuable enough that anyone wants to steal or they just don't sell.

We can see the feedback you left for the buyer, which is a policy violation.

Have a great day.

No. Ebay has never teamed up with a buyer to scam me.

Do your losses exceed your profits☹️.  That’s a good reason to close shop.  If not why don’t you just factor in you losses due to scammers as a cost of doing business.  That’s what any commercial retailer does.  10-15% loss due to theft, boom out the door. It’s a deduction on your taxes.

Has eBay helped a buyer scam you?

No.

I get a case filed once every 1,000 transactions or so, but only for I consider legitimate reasons.

But I do not think I have ever been 'scammed'.

Seems to me, no matter what, in order to keep every cent they "earn", ebay will actively HELP the scammer to prevent any repayment to sellers. Whether you have all proof required, photos of it all; whether it be a keychain or a Mystic Seer (this may or may not be what happened to us recently!): EBAY WILL ALLOW THE SCAM & THEIR PHONE REPS KNOWINGLY LIE TO SELLERS WITH MISINFORMATION ABOUT WHAT TO DO NEXT. Seller will ultimately be forced to accept "switcharoos" & "purposefully damaged items for exchange/refund" scams, because ebay ultimately sides with the buyer anyway. Seller gets the negative feedback no matter what. And ebay gets to keep their cut. EBAY ARE SCAMMERS THEMSELVES.

Over 2 years later, and you still have a store and active listings. Glad it wound up working positively for you!

Has eBay helped a buyer scam you?

*UPDATE: We were now told that the first rep we spoke to yesterday straight-up lied to us about everything. Like, that none of it was true. And made it a point to tell us that Ebay has paid out $159 in dispute fees. THEY WERE MORE CONCERNED WITH WHAT THEY HAD TO GIVE BACK.....and that we're only allowed so many a year. Never mind, how much money we've made for Ebay & apparently, no matter how many buyers try to scam you in a year: YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED SO MANY DISPUTES. Basically, EBAY ONLY PROTECTS SELLERS A LIMITED NUMBER OF TIMES A YEAR. After that, you're a sitting duck...........

Yah, um. Still doesn't solve the problem in ANY WAY. You must work for them.......

And don't think for a second that jumping on people with legitimate concerns is going to stop anyone. We have every right to voice our concerns. These scammers are stepping it up, your company knows it & they are 100% complacent. And what's this, "Over 2 years later" stuff, eh? We are currently dealing with this problem: One over keychains, another over a "I wanted a lower limited number/higher price replacement". YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUMP ON ANYONE. We have every right to complain about this.
