I had the best July and August I've ever had then things came to a screeching halt. I sold 3 items on Aug. 26th and only 1  since then. 😕

Folks having to take part in home schooling the kids they chose to have and getting distance learning up and running.  Other folks out burning down cities across the country.   Leaving smaller percentage shopping online and many of that smaller percentage lost their government windfall.   In the words of Theory of a Deadman.....  S*** costs money and life ain't free.

You are a UK seller.........presuming most of your sales are in the UK/Europe......might get better answers on one of those boards.............

I've had good sales in the last several months.......some days none, other days clusters of sales........

Re: Has anyone's sales just stopped this month?

Only two sales in the past two weeks and they were both Washington Redskins items.  Usually sports stuff sales are strong from mid- August through March madness - but this year with the abbreviated seasons, no NFL pre-season,  and few college sports - only the death of the Redskins name has accounted for most of my few sales.

I also sell some sports items. This year, people just don't seem as excited about the sports seasons, with everything being so different now. And to put it bluntly I think most people just don't have any extra money to spend when they are worried about food or basic everyday needs. All the extra money in the economy has dried up. It could be a COLD winter and I don't mean the weather.

I think all of the eBay glitches and switch to Managed Payments is probably impacting sells.

But I've noticed the only thing that is selling for me is things that are more needs and not wants.

I don't think Managed Payments makes any difference, because buyers don't notice much difference checking out.

I think it would be a mistake to assume that since the forward facing buyer experience isn't much different between PayPal and Managed Payments, the back end technical aspects must not be much different as well.

There are different systems and operations involved in each of those payment processors - it would not be out of the realm of possibility that there could be technical issues that would affect one and not the other at different times, or affect one to a greater degree than the other.

So while it may not be as direct or simple as "the switch to MP is negatively affecting sales", it may be something more along the lines of "eBay is experiencing technical difficulties that at certain times are having more of a negative impact on MP systems/operations than on PayPal payment systems/operations."

Re: Has anyone's sales just stopped this month?

I have two stores, one in MP and the other not.  Sales have been steady in both stores, so I don't think any glitches are affecting sales for more than short periods.

List more, sell more. Goodwill that other, uh, stuff.

Feeling sleepy? There's an app for that.

Right now I'm as slow as I've ever been and I can't figure out why except I see my impressions dropped by more than half starting on July 1st. There is no explanation for it.

Re: Has anyone's sales just stopped this month?

I had strong sales in sports stuff but I sell gear for participatory sports - notably running and cycling, and those have been very strong, particularly cycling.  But I've had to mine my own basement and workshop for that stuff because it's scarce to be had right now any other way.

I agree, this fall/winter is going to be awkward.

@chapeau_noir -- The bike shops here are having trouble getting new stock, and and when I decided it was time to replace the bike that was stolen a few years back, they gave me a three month wait-- I'm 5'3" and need a low cross bar to boot so it will be a special order.

@coyotemoon*

When you look at your sales for the same period in 2019, how do they compare? 2018? 2017?

I'm moving into a slow period, on the basis of my records, but had an amazing March through June,  with sales up 300% or more , and no chance of restocking since I source from thrifts which were closed.

Then sales stopped with a thud on all my IDs for nearly two weeks in early July, before returning to "summer normal".

Possibly more to the point, on another ID I sell mint postage, mostly to eBay sellers, and those sales have been very strong. DH also reports much competition in finding postage lots, which feeds into the same story.

I hope your sales drop is only temporary and things get back to normal rates soon for you.

Six days, six sales, it's actually above average for me so far this month.

Re: Has anyone's sales just stopped this month?

Yes, my sales just took a nosedive starting on august 7th. It was slow but regular until then. After August 7th, I was only seeing a sale per week. It hasn't gotten any better. Only one sale for September so far also. I don't know what they tinkered with in August but it's not looking good.

Re: Has anyone's sales just stopped this month?

@jaxjoy

I was reading an article about the future of retail, post-convid, and one thought was that consumers might be more nervous about buying used clothing, even vintage and high-end, in future.

Do you see any of that reflected in where you are and are not getting sales?

There was,  in the article, mixed predictions on collectibles, with some commentators pointing out high unemployment as a negative, while others said that the ones who were working tended to be in high income jobs (often those that could be done from home).

And everyone agreed that buying online for normal things like lightbulbs, dry goods and groceries, electronics , and new clothing was a growth market.

Not sure I agree with everything, but it was an interesting article.  (Globe and Mail Report on Business, sometime in August, I believe.)

SAME.

But for me it was a very, very slow summer.
That followed a lazy spring and weak end-of-the-year-holiday-season 😒

Mine has dropped a little bit since beginning of month. Not sure if it's vacation glitch or everyone being added to MP. I'm sure the rest of September will shape up. Best of luck.
