Has anyone run into this listing bug before?

Since I sell a lot of jewelry, it is easy to use sell similar to start a new item. However, if the item I use for the sell similar is a Fixed price listing and I try to change it to an Auction, the screen freezes with the timer and the only option is to back out.

It will show up in the drafts but going into it again, it will not let you list as an auction. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

Purely a guess, you understand, but: is it possible that the form is waiting for you to add some detail that's not needed for fixed-price listings, but is required for auctions? Their forms are not all that great at error handling, so you might have gotten into a situation where, for example, the form is waiting for you to fix something, but the error message to tell you about it never actually got displayed.

I've been through almost every scenario. The first freeze is caused by changing the venue from Fixed Price to Auction. When I go back into the draft, it has added the Auction, but has put the previous Fixed Price into the BIN with the Starting price empty. It will not let me remove the BIN and if I add a starting price it will also freeze.  Crazy stuff.

And now, for my next wild guess... Smiley Very Happy I would jump back into the Fixed Price listing tab and make sure that every field there is completely empty. Perhaps when you switch from Fixed to Auction, you're leaving some field data behind on the Fixed side that's confusing the form logic, so it can't figure out whether you intend to do an auction or a Fixed.

In my world a bug is a bug....lol. Robot wink

When I try to remove the Fixed Price and then change the format to Auction, it hangs. If I try to change the duration and remove the price and change to auction...it hangs.

If it isn't intuitive, lol, it's a bug.

Re: Has anyone run into this listing bug before?

Since I am on pokey-slow dial-up, I try to use the bulk editor as much as I can. For a relist or sell similar -- it doesn't matter which one -- I load at least 2 items into the bulk editor and then edit them individually if necessary.  Otherwise, clicking a "change" link on the full SYI form often results in javascript errors and a stalled screen.

It's very easy to select an item and then edit any of the sections.  In this case, it would be Duration and Format.  Next is Price, because the BIN and auction start price need to be adjusted.  Then I specify a Start Time -- usually staggered -- and schedule for later that day or even different dates.  Finally, I review the scheduled listings to make sure the details are correct before they go live.

If you have a store, of course, you'll want to revise a listing (from the item page) to "start immediately" in order to bypass the 20-cent fee.  (I don't have a store, so my scheduled listings are always at no charge.)

I find this technique especially helpful to change a category or subcategory. For example, I might want to change from Steiff pre-1970 to Steiff post-1970 or from one print advertising subject to another.  In all cases, my established template remains intact -- it's just a matter of changing a few details.
