I don't think I would do something like that but I wanted to see if there were any stories out there.

I do that, rarely though, when I have no clue what the value is. Some of the items I sell were made in the 1800's so it's very hard to put a value on them as they are have somewhat low demand.

Do you mean marked up an exorbitant amount above what I paid when I bought the item to resell, or do you mean marked up an exorbitant amount compared to what other similar items have sold for?

I have. If you bought it real cheap, but the value is high.

Hi @bonddm_07
Buy it … yes. Pay for it … no.
I ‘m a buyer only. I once was answering a question about how some sellers raise the price to a ridiculously high amount when an item is out of stock … to keep people from buying it.
While checking out a few of these listings quickly … I somehow managed to ‘buy’ a $10 item for $700! 😳 [Prices approximate.]
It was the first time I ever asked a seller to cancel a transaction … and I was enormously grateful that they agreed quickly. 😅
I don’t know which of us learned the bigger lesson from that experience. LOL

I haven't, but I hear that's what Big Oil is doing to hundreds of millions of people every day. And apparently business is booming.

The price you pay is the value it is to you. So what may be exorbitant to one could be a bargain to another, even at the same dollar amount.

I normally buy 300-400 boxes every 3 months.
I went in to the old listing and hit buy again except the price was like tripled. it was a placeholder price for out of stock
somehow the buyer was able to refund me and not leave a trace of payment. they are a huge seller and it was like the listing or payment just evaporated.
I was grateful that this happened because I did not even glance at the price..I just hit buy another

After Christmas was over I put all my ornaments away in storage, tripled the prices on all of them so they wouldn't sell but I could keep the listings live and I still ended up selling quite a few of them in January and a few last month.

Did you mean to buy it or was it an accident?

hmmm: new a dealer in books that their Lister missed the decimal point. It sold for them two points left out,
It would have been $29.95, instead it sold for $2995.00 so yes it can and does happen...
The owner even gave the listed a bonus...

A totally mortifying accident.
I was intending to look at previous ‘items sold’ prices … and clicked on the BIN instead.
I still haven’t figured out how I confirmed the BIN … so I can never again mock a buyer who claims to have purchased an item ‘accidentally’. LOL

HAHA. It probably happened before the immediate payment required days. 😃

interesting topic.....
yes, I listed an item for a 'specific' customer.....we are in different time zones (australia for him, US for me), so they were not sure when they could get to it....So, I listed it for 499.00 (a 99.00 item) and they would simply make a 'Best Offer' for the 99.00 when they got to it and I would accept it....
Someone actually used the Buy it Now for 499....I was flabbergasted

I've gotten in the habit lately of pricing my obscure items at a price I would "LOVE" to get, waiting for watchers, then sending offers to the watchers for prices I would "LIKE" to get, which is usually still higher than what I would have listed them for in the first place.
