Hard lesson!

After mistakenly listing an item’s size, a buyer asked for a refund, sending a photo as evidence.  Of course, I accepted the return, and as it was my first return, I mistakenly sent the refund for $130+.  Buyer asked for a shipping label, which I purchased and sent via messsage.  Sadly and foolishly, I lost.  I received no reply.  Communication on her part went silent.  Hard lesson.  I’ve lost my item and my money.

 

yes, I now realize that I should not sent the refund until I received the item back.  Sigh.  😔 I did report it to eBay, but I guess I have no recourse.   Thinking I should say something on feedback as I see my lovely new item now gone…

Why? This was your fault - Buyer has no obligation, other than moral, to send it back. Suck it up and move on, lesson learned. Also, false positive feedback is prohibited and not allowed.

You can't say anything that could appear negative towards a buyer, it's a violation.

You messed up so why would you say anything anyway?

And send the return label from inside the Request for Return request that the buyer opened, not via email.  Unless you were doing this outside of the claims process.  Which is fine, as long as you know the process.

We all make mistakes.  The important part is learning from these mistakes, which clearly you have.  Sorry you lost all that money.

Yes, I guess that is true..   I am too trusting too.  Thank you all for your input.   Perhaps she needed it all more than I did.

No, I would not say negative things about the buyer on eBay, but I just wanted to explain what happened in feedback.  BUT, no, no feedback.

If you say anything negative, buyer can report it.

They'll keep the positive, the comment will be removed and you'll get a policy violation.

Wouldn't do any feedback...since we can all read it and make a future judgement purchase from you.

There's that old saying...'if you nothing nice to say...say nothing'.

Block the buyer and just consider it a lesson learned...an expensive one.

That was indeed a hard lesson and an expensive one.

 

I know you were just trying to do the right thing by your buyer errrr gift recipient

Look at it this way; that is one thing you are not going to forget. Always accept the return, issue the label thru the return request and WAIT for it to be returned.

Thing is, sometimes buyers don't return the item. They change their mind & decide to just keep it and so you would keep the money. 

 

Hopefully your buyer's conscience will speak to them and they will return the item. 

They may just be taking their sweet time since they've already been refunded. 

Perhaps a message: "I have sent you a paid return label and refunded your money to make things right. Would you be so kind as to drop my item in the mail & send it on it's way?" 

 

It can't hurt.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response.  Believe it or not, that is exactly what I did.  Ebay assisted me in sending my paid label, and I have messaged the buyer via ebay. I asked if she received the requested label, and if there were any concerns.  I also mentioned that I understand if there was a family emergency or work-related issues that kept her from shipping the item, as that could be a legitimate concern.  Unfortunately,  I have had no responses to any of the messages.  
It's time to let it go, and yes, I will be more careful in the future.  I have learned to be much more cautious.

Some people don't understand how someone might make a honest mistake.  Or they simply don't recognize their own mistakes.  But most of us here do understand as we have made mistakes too.  You are doing terrific and have a great attitude about this.  It is a indicator that your future is going to be very bright.
