Happy Anniversary to me, Love, Ebay

I got an email from Ebay congratulating me on my 25-Year anniversary. Know what they gave me? That is right, nothing. Not even a coupon. That was impressive.

Why would eBay give you anything over an arbitrary "milestone"?

Re: Happy Anniversary to me, Love, Ebay

Geez, I don't even keep track. I used to get power seller certificates back in the day, though.

Joe K. who runs the marketplace stats site had an interesting blog about ebay having too high of a percentage of "veteran sellers" which may inhibit the site remaining as relevant as younger sites because of not enough new blood. But ebay is rather long in the tooth with an aging base, and I think that has as much to do with it than anything - sheer competition.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

We haven't gotten an email in a long time.  The only one I could find was for our 13th anniversary back in 2014 and they also included a link to print out an Anniversary Certificate.

Har! They used to print the certificate themselves and then mail it to you, until someone noticed that it would be much cheaper to email it instead and tell the user to just print it himself. Somewhere around here I have a large envelope containing the last certificate I received. I don't remember when it arrived, but I know it had the old ("ebaY") logo on the outside.

My own 20th anniversary went by last April and no one noticed. 😢

Happy Anniversary!   I am jealous - I have also been selling for over 25 years (since June 1999) and I did not get an email from eBay.

Customer goodwill, from back in the days when that was a thing.

If I remember right, I think there was the occasional trinket sent out, and once I got a $35 gift card from them, I think for participating in the Community groups here (under a prior ownership, not Khoros).

They're still big on free swag these days, but it's primarily for showing up at live events and things like that.

I am not 100 percent sure when I started myself. My oldest active account goes back to 2003, the oldest one I remember the name on was registered in 2001, but there were at least 2 or 3 accounts before that.

Why so many accounts?  Just curious.

My 25th Ann is coming up this year, as well.

The great things you could get back then ~ I cut my teeth on vintage Tupperware canisters, then moved on to a pair of beautiful vintage barkcloth drapes. I was determined to win and entered my bid at $400. Ended up getting them for about $125 and mailed in my personal check. I've enjoyed them every day since then.

@adamcartwright

Congratulations.   I do enjoy your posts in the forums.

Earlier in the thread I said my 25th is this coming August.
