Handicapped Parking Placards

Can someone please tell me why, ebay is allowing handicapped parking placards to be sold? It is a CRIMINAL ACT across ALL 50 states to posses or use one of these, that was not issued to you. The ONLY use someone could have for one, is to commit fraud, period. Basically, ebay is an accessory to a crime, every time one sells. I get so tired of corporations ACTING like they care, and then KNOWINGLY engaging in completely unethical and immoral actions.

Then you're NOT looking closely enough and spotting the scam. "Holder WITH PLACARD" is there repeatedly, just not obviously

"Holder WITH PLACARD" is where, in the title or description? There are hundreds of holders for sale so I'm not going to read every one of them. Can you be more specific, like the actual title of the listing?

Did you report the one you saw?

Anyone who actually bought and used a fake placard is an idiot of the first order anyway as parking inspectors DO check they're legit and the fines are pretty hefty.

Using and possessing a fake is a misdemeanor- you will be arrested on the spot, handcuffed and processed- then you get to see the judge. Is NOT just a ticket.

I'm aware. The fines come later.

I agree, and a big problem especially in big cities like NY, etc., But I am wondering if anyone can actually point to one sale where they are selling the placard with the holders. I know the seller can't be shown here but the title maybe? If so, it would be helpful in stopping it.

At any rate, given the billion(?) listings on ebay I don't think ebay is an accessory to the crime of selling unauthorized placards as the logistics of (AI) spotting something like that are next to impossible without someone alerting ebay.

I have a handicap placard for my son.    He has a bad leg from a birth defect.    We rarely use a spot unless he is tired or the parking lots are icy or snowy.

I looked and saw several fill in yourself cards.    We had our placard stolen and when we reported it,   were given a new number and told to buy one of those  fill in the blank cards until the new one came through.     That is all that I saw on Ebay.     They are totally legal.    Some states allow the fill in the blank passes as long as the number is legal.

Someone using a space illegally probably has Grandpa's tag and not one of these fill in the blank job.

Not to put too fine a point on it but possession by someone other than the person it was issued to,  is not a criminal act.

Using it if either not issued to you or without the person it was issued to being present, would be a violation.

If you are transporting the person who was issued the permit,  you may use it.   And if you store it in your vehicle, being the only driver for that person, provided you don't use it without that person being present, you are not in violation.

As for what that particular seller is offering for sale, why not ask the seller?  In a non accusatory manner, I hope.  Then and only then, decide if something needs to be reported.

Exactly - I just looked it all up in my state to apply for one.

I hate getting old.

In Ohio, at least, you don't have to be "getting old" to have one of those.

You have to be handicapped in some way or transporting someone who is handicapped.

And I saw at least one of those listings which showed a card in a holder and stated something like "what is shown is what you receive".  To me, that implies you will get the placard and a holder.

I can't figure out why anyone would sell the holder alone anyway.  In my state, you  buy the holder for a few dollars when you go to get your placard.  And the last time, they evidently forgot to charge for the holder.

You don't need to be 'getting old' in PA either. It's just the reason why I need one .... Moving too much furniture out of places you can hardly get in to, falling through floors many times, etc.. OA and a hip that needs replaced.

And yes - that is the listing - but the placard is a generic one where you have to write in all of the info - used if you lost yours until you get another one.

And they WILL check the validity of the numbers.

I have gone through several folders.

I have a 6 year old grandson who thought as a toddler,  they were too cool to grab.

I have also torn a few because I take it down unless I have my son with me.

@glassworx

I stand corrected.

In that case, I recommend printing that ad and taking it to your local authority where real hang-tags are issued and make an official report.  Also I'd take it to the post office too and report.

I wish you well.

I must remark on how many people I see getting out of vehicles with one that are practically skipping their way into the stores.
