Above is a link on setting a reserve.

Last time i set one, it killed my auction dead. Better to start bidding at the reserve price snd forgo the reserve.

Unofficially, you don't. A Reserve price discourages some bidders, and leads others to start messaging you to ask what the Reserve price is, if you don't reveal it in the description. It also costs you more to have a Reserve price on your listing. 

Just set the opening price to be whatever you would genuinely accept for the item if you only ever got one bid, and then every bid after that is gravy.
