I don't think ending listings at whatever date you feel is appropriate is as much work as you think it is. You can do it in bulk if you want. It would take you literally far less than 60 seconds.

When you have all the listings selected that you want to end, go back to the area just above where your active listings list starts. Click on the down arrow on the ACTION box. The select END. You actually may find this a whole lot quicker than what you have been doing. You can do a similar thing from your Ended Listing screen when you want to Sell Similar. Check the box on the left of all the listings you want to repost. Go to the top and Sell Similar or Relist all the listings you want.
As to not being notified of these changes. It is SO IMPORTANT to read the emails that Ebay sends out. Ignoring them causes you to get they nasty little surprises. Ebay sent out an email to all its seller for the Early Spring Seller Update.

Check your site preferences / communication preferences. You may have them blocked.

Announcements and email with the Seller update in them are two DIFFERENT ways in which Ebay has to communicate with us. They are NOT the same thing.
You may get an email about an Announcement if you are signed up under announcements to get an email when a new one is posted.
The email for Seller Updates is a different email.

Off the top of my head I can't remember if the Seller update was posted there
I do know there had been many posts about the link still not working for many
if I looked I could probably find the posts but not really worth it.

Why should the OP give ebay even more money for Auctions with the Buy it now ?
No way would I do that if I was already footing the bill for a Premium store, Or any store as a matter of fact
Also many many sellers have posted that they got a bad link to the seller update ,this one was a major mess and they sent us all ebay message that lead us to a non working link at first
And you have every right to make that decision for yourself. Others may see it as an option and other's won't.
As to the cost of adding the BIN option to an auctions, I think most sellers understand that the price they place on their listings should be all inclusive of all their costs involved with the particular listing plus their profit. So while you may pay Ebay a little more in fees, you get it back when the item sells. Which is the nature of selling here in the first place.
Granted this won't work for everyone. I did not say it would. For some however it may be an option.

Not that it makes a lot of difference, but it was a three week notice. The email came out on 2/26 and it started on 3/18. That is just shy of 3 weeks.
