HELP intercepted at last min!

So this is a first for me. After years of selling on eBay.

A few days ago I sold a very expensive jar of face cream to a buyer for $170.00. There were no messages, questions or best offers. It sold through buy it now. I shipped it the next day priority with signature confirmation.

24 hours later I get a message almost illegible and with bad spelling.  The message reads more or less about the type of face cream I sold. I told the buyer that I had already shipped the item and it’s on it’s way. That they will receive the exact item in the photo.

Now im getting messages claiming it was falsely listed and that I didn’t type certain words into my listing title. So I respond saying that if it is indeed the wrong product at the fault of my own I will accept a free return. And off they go with nasty messages....

I head over to a PC to see this characters “feedback left for others” unfortunately the eBay app doesn’t allow viewing of this. I counted multiple negatives, strange positives that could be misconstrued as blaming other sellers for the death of her dog. There were a few false positives left by other sellers with power seller status, at their risk to basically warn others. Threats and supposedly the buyer called police. She claims many of her purchases are “counterfeit”

So here I am kicking myself. For not reviewing this feedback prior to shipping. If she is not scamming me I’m sure this will result in my first negative.

So she continues to message me and wants her money back NOW! She doesn’t want to have to go to the post office to return it when it arrives. So basically she’s requesting a refund before it gets there!

After seeing it tracked into Manhattan (I’m in Queens) I decided to go online and request the package get intercepted back. It qualified but hasn’t had any updates besides bouncing around to other distribution centers.

I wanted to be relieved that I avoided this nightmare but now I fear a failure through the interception.

My question to other sellers is - What is the success rate of intercepted packages? Has anyone used this last minute?

Will ebay be kind to possibly remove the negative coming my way?

I’ve lost sleep and extra money from this nightmare. My fear is that she will recieve it and either open it rendering it of no value or return a counterfeit item in its place. It’s marketed at a value of over $300.00.

The BUYER is making unreasonable demands at this point with NO evidence to support for her claims. No good.

@pburn that would be an "oops" sorry 😞  Depending on the time on the east coast - it could be before my 9 o'clock cold one 😉

Hmmm ... that's why I said:   I'm hoping to find out the OP got this whole thing resolved, got her intercepted package back and eBay doesn't allow that bad buyer to create any problems or leave her negative feedback.

Re: HELP intercepted at last min!

The seller still purchased the item. Send her a message and tell her not to open or touch the package and file a return at your expense. Do Not refund any money until you receive your product back as per Ebay policy. I would Immediately call customer service and explain this so you know exactly where your transaction stands. The worst thing that should happen in this situation, is you lose the shipping costs. If she is complaining you did not describe it properly, than there is no reason for her to open the product.

Signature confirmation doesn’t offer you any added protection. It’s only needed on items over $750.  With unauthorized credit card chargebacks all you need is to show you shipped to the address in the order details on PayPal

And to add to that info,..............   signature confirmation does not assure that the "buyer" will sign for it.  It just assures that "someone" will sign for it.

With USPS,  only "restricted delivery" will get the addresse'es (or their "in writing" designated agent)signature.

Re: HELP intercepted at last min!

Neither eBay nor PayPal require the actual buyer's signature.

Re: HELP intercepted at last min!

Yes!! It was recently resolved. The package was successfully intercepted and is on its way back to my home address. I have proof of the interception as well as now see it over the tracking information. Lastly I contacted a friend who works for the USPS and they informed me that if it wasn’t for my signature confirmation my package would have been delivered faster and would have arrived with the buyer.  They have to arrange to have someone walk it to the delivery address and often times hire specific post carriers for this.

I can now breath and will most likely sleep better. Regardless of if I recieve a negative or not I managed to save a very very expensive small jar of face cream. I can re-sell it now and hope to get even more for it.

Tonight after sending the buyer a full refund, I sat and carefully reviewed the false positive feedback from other sellers and this buyers many many negative feedbacks left for sellers. I went to other seller ID’s and looked through it all. Turns out the buyer I avoided this sale with loves to scam using the ol “switch” item scam. She also seems to be involved with counterfeit claims.

I apprciate everyone here here who has reached out to me. I hope my issue can help other sellers in the future who are not sure what to expect and are googling package interception on eBay.

I will be more mindful for how I use the confirmation signature. I still feel I would prefer to use it for certain sales. Given the fact that I myself have had many personal packages stolen from the front of my residence.

Thank you all again - Nicole

I would have suggested waiting until the package actually made its way back to you, but hopefully it will do so. There have been instances where a package will ping-pong back and forth between facilities that see the return-to-sender status and those that don't. Don't freak out if it seems to take a U-turn along the way and start heading towards the buyer again. It will likely get turned around again soon enough.

For purchases being sent to you, you can certainly ask the seller to add Signature Confirmation (and pay him the extra three bucks) if you're concerned about package thefts from your house, but if this is a big risk and you get frequent deliveries, it might be more cost-effective to just get yourself a PO Box instead.

When shipping to buyers, Signature Confirmation can add complication as well as expense to what should otherwise be a routine delivery. It's not your responsibility to ensure a safe delivery space for your buyer. That's between him and his carrier. (The carrier can choose to leave a pickup notice instead if he doesn't think the delivery will be safe.)

I am so happy to read this!

This is why it upsets me that we cannot see your buyers ID.  I know, I know ... some will say "just because you had a problem with this buyer does not mean others will have the same problem"  but in THIS instance, where you can clearly see that buyer has left "many many negative feedbacks left for sellers"  and (apparently) nothing has been done to stop him/her .... I would like to be able to put that person on my BBL.   <sigh>

Yes, they were blocked! I’ve added them to my BBL a few hours ago.

I have started adding confirmation signature after some unauthorized credit card scams on a few big ticket items. I was told by eBay that the case was more in my favor because I added along the signature requirement. I always let my buyers know either in the listing or after the sale is made. I get it can be a headache to be home to sign for a package. I just do not want a small $170 item sitting on someone’s steps either.

I urge you to reconsider that. As a buyer I would NOT be happy if I found out that important piece of information after paying rather than seeing it stated clearly in the listing so I could make an informed purchase.

Good night and good luck

Just pointing out that Restricted Delivery would be a complete waste of money.
