Got burned

Sold a brand new rifle scope in a shrink wrapped sealed box from factory.Buyer said there was a little dust on it and in the next breath says he was going to buy a used one at half the price that he payed for the new one I sold him.He had buyer remorse. So EBay sided with him they never refunded my $40 in seller fees and also when the customer sent it back he used sticky cellophane wrap and ruined the brand new box it came in.I am Done selling on EBay the $20 I was going to make ended up costing me around $75.Good luck sellers because EBay didn’t back me up.Had over 400 transactions and that’s how they treat you.BEWARE because you might get burned too.PS NOT HAPPY.Also customer service are full of lies.

Re: Got burned

You should have got your final value fee back after you agreed to a return  and refunded the  buyer after they shipped it back to you. Am I missing something here?

Re: Got burned

My other question would be how did your other 400 transactions go. Pretty good? Those of us on here awhile have had some bad one’s as well, it comes with the territory.

Re: Got burned

It sounds like you refused to accept the buyer's return request. Sometimes buyers want to return things.

Re: Got burned

If you accepted the return, why would e-bay not refund you your Seller fees when you refunded the buyer?  Did you not refund the Buyer in the 2-day window and they had to ask e-bay to step in and do the refund after the return?

Re: Got burned

I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm guessing it's the Leupold 3-9x40 (due to the final value fees), and hate it that the return shipping was poor. I can't imagine that you won't be refunded your fees... it was handled through an eBay Return, right?

You're limited to what you can accomplish with your 'No Returns' policy, but if a remorse reason was given, the buyer should have paid the return shipping. There is nothing you can do about the de-valued item (upon return)... you'd have to offer Free Returns to be able to make (up to) a 50% reduction in the amount of the refund. (It doesn't make a seller whole, but lessens the sting of refunds.) Moving forward (and if you decide to give it another shot here), you might want to revisit your Returns policy. Good luck, however you proceed.

Re: Got burned

@jim1119- if you want possible reasons for what you say happened to you, and potential ways to change that, we're going to need a lot more information and detail.

- Did the buyer open a Return Request or SNAD case?  What did they claim?

- Did you respond to the Return Request or case?  What did you say/ask?

- Did your listing state the item was New In Box?  Were pictures of the box included?  Was it a one-only listing (what you see is what I'm selling situation)?

- If the buyer got eBay to 'side with' them, they must have escalated a case - which is automatic on a Refund Request under some conditions or can be requested by the buyer in the rest.

- When the buyer stated that they 'found dust' and intended to buy another at a better price, what that via eBay Messages or simple email?  Since eBay no longer shares email addresses, if it was a 'direct email', it still would have gone thru eBay's system and they will have a copy of the buyers message.  If you sent them your email address as part of the shipment and they contacted you without going thru eBay, you will not be allowed to use their statements against them.

The devil is in the details... and if you want help to potentially correct this, we need to know those details to properly guide you.

If, on the other hand, you were just venting and have already moved on - good luck with whatever venue you end up on.  On the off-chance you're still reading this - please let us know where you land and why you think it's better/different from eBay.  Inquiring minds would love to know!
