Recently i noticed a huge increase in my ebay fees, so much that i had to check the detail of the billings, to my surprise i find that ebay has been charging an insertion fee for every relisted item formatted as "Fixed price - Good till canceled"
A dishonest move by eBay but OK i decided to change all my listings to 30 day duration and go trough the trouble of relisting them manually each month, that is, until ebay decided that "Good Til Cancelled" is now the only available option for "Fixed price" listings
I get the feeling every time ebay changes policy is always at the sellers expense. I wonder how many were already secretly charged without knowing over these changes

@mam98031 wrote:Yes, many consider them "silly emails" until they miss one and don't know why something is happening to their listings. Then it is all Ebay's fault for not telling them about it. A darn vicious circle is created.
They did NOT release a "mass" amount of changes at one time. The Early Spring Seller Update did not do that, so what are you referring to.

I didn't say all the changes with one single release I'm referring to the ever hanging structuring of Ebay. This place issues changes so much its hard to keep up. Always some dim-witted concoction dreamed up, then executed poorly. Theres been many and many over the years. Theres no consistency and some changes are hypocritical. One day Ebay tells you to do this and 3 months later its do that. Overly complication for sure

No argument here. Ebay's rules are extremely fluid / changing all the time. It is extremely difficult to keep up on them. Which is just another reason NOT to ignore emails from Ebay. It is in our best interest to read them.
So I do not consider the emails Ebay sends about policy / rule changes to be "silly".
Ebay also has not for many years made "mass" changes at one time. To avoid that came the Seller Updates 2-3 times a year on average. None of those have been massive changes either. While some BIG changes have happened to be sure, there is no denying that. But Ebay hasn't released a mass amount of changes at one time for a very long time. I don't even remember the last time they did that. Someone else might.

Just like I found out now that I am being scammed by an idiot buyer that there is no decline button on returns. After the last year I've had with buyers getting away with everything from keeping the item AND getting Ebay to return the money before I got the item back to lying that it didn't match description...which is code word for "nothing seller can do" I am done. I am trying to get through this last miserable and ridiculously stressful transaction and I'm out. You may think they give notice but one day when it happens to you, you will realize that they don't give notice. They have taken too much control. I've been here since 2001 too and I'm not a store. I'm not a power seller. I'm just someone who really enjoyed funding my purse habit. It is just so sad to see how things have changed so awfully over the years. Totally sick of them taking no responsibility for the fraudulent buyer and the good till cancelled and all the other stuff!!! There are plenty of newer sites that are far more respectful of their sellers.

The GTC is annoying and they definitely banked on a bunch of sellers not noticing. It was not well-advertised at all, I only found out about it because I was dropping by the forum to look up a different matter.
But anyway, I've got to ask . . . why an Autobot insignia instead of a Decepticon insignia?

You owe it to yourself to keep abreast of changes in anything you do that can cost more than you are willing or able to pay.

Ebay sent out their Seller Update email like they do every few months. This one was sent to sellers on February 26th. You may want to check your spam folder to see if it got stuck in there.

It is in your best interest to resolve whatever issue you may have in getting these emails as there are more coming. Next week should the the release of the Spring Seller Update. That will come to you in an email from Ebay too.

Besides the announcement on February 26, I saw reminders on my Sellers Hub every time I logged in. It even appeared across the top of the screen right next to Help & Contact. There were posts every day on this SELLING board as well as quite a few of the other discussion boards.

GTC has not cost me a penny.
I monitor my account.
I had no GTC before it became the only "fixed price" option.
Plenty of notice was given for the change.
Occasional/casual sellers will see on the screen that fixed price is GTC before they list. That may be a surprise to them, but it is not hidden.
buyselljack perhaps the reason GTC hasn't cost you anything is because you don't have ANYTHING currently listed FOR SALE.

One more time: Many people who post on the boards use a separate ID from there selling ID. You cannot rely on who they are by looking up their posting ID. I learned this the same way you are learning it now.

After 20 years of eBay I'm very aware of what you mention. Thanks for your input evo good luck to you.

Just curious as to what the going rate is to be an eBay apologist. Do you get money or just some free listings? I use GTC exclusively except for a few auctions, so this wasn't new to me, I know the dance to not get charged double. However, emails notwithstanding (and I was late to see mine) this was only half explained to ebay sellers. A full disclosure would have been explicit warnings about what this could mean for fees. An honest fix would have been software adjustments that took into account the 31 day months and 30 day GTC cycle. Nope. They knew what they were doing. The game was to see how many sellers fell into that trap. Had there not been an outcry, they wouldn't have addressed it at all. If its a greed move, let's call it as such.
These are common accusations when a poster doesn't agree with another poster. I have found they do this in an effort to dismiss what the other poster has said or otherwise try to make it seem as if the other posters opinions / experiences have no value.
I respect your opinion that the Early Spring Seller Update did not explain the GTC change to your liking. But I must say you have been the first one I've seen say that on the threads. That doesn't mean someone else doesn't feel the same way you do, it just means it isn't a complaint I had seen before.
As for the need for Ebay to reconsider their 30 day renewal policy, Ebay has said they are willing to do that and should be coming out with an announcement on how that will be handled soon. I think when they said they would reconsider this that they said they would announce something in May.
I am sorry you are having trouble adapting to GTC listings. There are many good sellers like yourself in the same position as you are. I wish you nothing but the best in figuring out what will be best for you moving forward.

Just so you know, there is the Spring Seller Update due out next week. Don't overlook that email as you may miss even more important information you may want to know about.
You are correct, they are pesky emails:
- causing trouble; annoying."pesky mosquitoes"

Just speculation but maybe because they are the bad guys?
