Good Til Cancelled GTC Question about specifying ending date in listing

Hi all.

Like a lot of people on here, I'm not particularly happy with the Good Til Cancelled policy. But, there's not a lot I can do about it.

I have found in the past that for my sales, people either buy stuff the first or second day, or within a day or two of it ending ... I really don't like that I have to wait 30 days for them ending now (or really just renewing). That 'forced end' date seemed to make people decide to actually buy the item.

I also don't care for auction listing format because 50% of the auction listings I sell, people never actually pay for. At least with 'buy-it-now', you can make sure people pay for an item.

Regardless, I have a lot of items that if I don't sell I will be putting in a garage sale in the coming weekends. Does anyone know if eBay has mentioned that you can't specify an ending date in the listing itself?  I was thinking of adding a red/bold line that reads "I will be ending this listing on Thursday night, 6/XX/2019."  That way, people would know they can't wait two or three weeks for it.

I searched through some help topics, but I didn't find anything pertaining to this. Perhaps I missed it.  If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, and have a good day.

Yes, you can add that in your listing if you want to.

I think some other sellers have done that, don't know if it's made any difference or not though.

Good Til Cancelled GTC Question about specifying ending date in listing

I too, absolutely abhor GTC. I have yet to have any GTC sell after 2-3 days unless of course, I send a best offer. Some have bit and accepted the offer. But again, all of these sales happened within the first week of a listing. I have 2 seller accounts and my feedback w/ both accounts totals over 10,000 so I know it's not me... I have added some text that states that I am ending ALL fixed priced adds a few hours before the end time so if you want to bid, do so before the last few hours. I put this in the NOTES area but I think folks aren't seeing. I am thinking of putting it in the description area in a different color.

Make your life easier and start your items in big groups. This allows for a 'night off" where you don't have to babysit your listings. ALL of mine start between 10:30 and 11:59 EST. Practice ending your items in bulk too. Use a laptop. It will be easier . If you use an ipad, do NOT use the app to end. Use SAFARI (or whatever browser ) and go to www.ebay.com .. go to your account. Sign in and then go to the seller hub.

Good Til Cancelled GTC Question about specifying ending date in listing

Thanks for the quick reply.

I view items on the iPad / iPhone version of eBay, but do all listing work on my regular desktop computer ... the full website seems much better than trying to get 'real work' done in the app!  LOL 🙂

I appreciate the helpful advice about listing / ending times too!

Thanks again, and have a good day.
